I completely agree with this excerpt from the enclosed article:

With Palin's announcement that she won't run for president, the election is essentially over.

The calculus is fairly simple: the media and GOP establishment want Romney to be the nominee. Once a progressive is at the head of the Republican ticket, low turnout for Republicans will hand a narrow victory to Obama.

I can only speak for myself, but I can tell you this conservative will drink cyanide before he votes for Romney.

    Palin’s people

Contrary to the predictions making the rounds since Sarah’s announcement, Michele Bachmann is the only Republican still standing who has a fair chance of picking up Sarah Palin’s conservatives.

    Paul and Cain

Ron Paul is obviously not my first choice, but he would get me out to vote. In spite of his straw poll victory he does not stand a chance of getting the nomination. Ditto Herman Cain after the media turns on him:

The media hasn't seriously opened up on Herman Cain, but most assuredly they will. Cain has been in business for decades, and the liberal media will troll through every relationship, every business deal, every word he has ever spoken. If that fails, the lies will start.

Bottom line: Democrats and their media stooges wanted Romney from the start and they will have him no matter what it takes —— not because Hussein can beat him, but because Romney is an acceptable substitute —— six of one, a half dozen of the other.

As I’ve been saying since 2008 and McCain, I’d rather have Hussein take the country over a cliff than endure the death of a thousand cuts administered by another Northeast liberal. Hitting bottom is one sure way this country will finally pick itself up by getting rid of liberals and RINO in one glorious wipe out. Another four years of Hussein should do it.

Now, let’s examine a few possible scenarios:

    1. Hussein wins, but gets a Republican Congress.

That’s a better choice than Romney IF Tea Partiers win enough seats in both Houses to stop Hussein in his tracks. I cite Tea Partiers because establishment Republicans, in or out of the majority, always behave as though Democrats are in charge. Had Einstein commented on the mindset of establishment Republicans he would have defined insanity this way:

Compromising the same way over and over again and expecting different results.

    2. Romney wins and gets the House and Senate to boot.

Don’t start salivating until you recall what happened when Bush the Younger had a Republican Congress. Democrats got more out of Bush than they ever got from a Democrat president. Democrats still blame Bush for today’s economic mess, but they forget to mention that Bush, and congressional Republicans, rolled over for Democrats more times than hustling girls in a Greek cathouse rollover when the fleet’s in. Worse still for conservatives, there ain’t no day of rest for establishment Republicans compromising with Democrats. They’ll rollover every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

    Palin's Withdrawal Means Obama Wins
    By Robert Eugene Simmons Jr.

Unfortunately, it looks like the forces of smear, slander, and threat have finally claimed their intended victim. With Palin's announcement that she won't run for president, the election is essentially over.

The calculus is fairly simple: the media and GOP establishment want Romney to be the nominee. Once a progressive is at the head of the Republican ticket, low turnout for Republicans will hand a narrow victory to Obama.

So here is how the election will go. The media hasn't seriously opened up on Herman Cain, but most assuredly they will. Cain has been in business for decades, and the liberal media will troll through every relationship, every business deal, every word he has ever spoken. If that fails, the lies will start. To see evidence of this, we need not look at far as Palin. Rick Perry, another progressive, was attacked for something that someone painted on a rock on land his family leased out. That narrative will be used to attack both Perry and Cain -- Perry for having "allowed" it and Cain for making a big deal over "nothing." Both narratives will be forwarded, potentially in the same program. Once the liberal media goes through Cain's past with a fine-toothed comb, they will doubtless find disgruntled business adversaries, accusations of infidelity, and more.

If Palin had been in the race, the smear tactics would have failed, as the establishment and media threw everything they could possibly throw to get her out of the race. Who knows what her personal reasons, in her heart of hearts, were for not running? Perhaps she feared for the safety of her family. At any rate, there is no other conservative that has as much of a head start on the slander as Palin did.

All of the personal attacks will be done to assure that Romney gets the nomination. The GOP bigwigs will do it because they feel it's Romney's "turn." The media will do it because Romney will be far easier to defeat than a Tea Party candidate. Because Palin has withdrawn, her endorsement will be of limited value, as she has drawn most of her influence from the mortal fear the establishment and liberals had of her becoming president. Without that fear, her power will be practically inconsequential.

The propulsion of Romney to the nomination is already in full swing, as evidenced by the trivial "scandals" plaguing the news cycle about Perry, Cain, Bachmann, and everyone else who is a threat to Romney. At the same time, the media is being absolutely kind-hearted to Romney himself.

Once Romney wins the nomination, the liberal media will open up on him just as they opened up on McCain. Prior to McCain winning the 2008 nomination, he was the darling of the liberal media. But after McCain took the nomination, everything changed.

Unfortunately, Palin's withdrawal has taught the media that this works. Romney will receive the same treatment. Everything the media has stored up on Romney will be released in calculated dribbles to keep the news cycle always focused on the latest Romney scandal. Even Romney's religion will be used to paint him as an extremist radical fundamentalist.

Furthermore, Obama will eviscerate Romney in the debates. When the subject of health care comes up, Obama will challenge Romney, who will have to reiterate the lame excuse for the statist intrusion he signed into law in Massachusetts. Obama will also be able to point to Romney's support of Brady and other gun control bills, state-run health care, and any number of other progressive-statist stances Romney has taken, or vacillated in and out of, in the past. Obama doubtless has an excellent research team, and they will be in full force to try to destroy Romney. This will suppress the voter turnout.

This was the goal of the Democrat party in 2008, and it remains the goal in 2012. In 2008 the Democrats dodged a bullet because they hadn't counted on a Palin VP nomination galvanizing a dispirited Republican party. Without Palin, or another charismatic authentic conservative, Obama would have swept the election in a landslide. Romney choosing a conservative this time won't work because the liberal media have found a foolproof way of destroying anyone they want to. Palin won't work for Romney, either, as she will be painted as not wanting the presidency; in fact, Palin's withdrawal from the race has given her opponents considerable artillery-sized ammunition.

The net result will be a narrow reelection of Obama for another four years. The only possible positive outcome would be a conservative-libertarian legislature and a total deadlock in government. If the Democrats manage to take back the House and hold the Senate, everything we saw in the first four Obama years will be put on steroids, and America as we know it will cease to exist, buried under an avalanche of socialism.

This has always been the goal of the left. With a projected billion dollars to work on all of these local races, Obama will finally have the chance to make his socialist dream a reality.

However, that Obama get another four years as an avowed Marxist is perhaps better than handing the presidency to a progressive Republican who would continue Obama's statist goals in stealth. Perhaps another four years of misery will finally wake up America to the utter failure that socialism is. Perhaps America hasn't suffered enough punishment to change the system. I wonder if it will be another four or four hundred years before people finally get it.

That happens ONLY if the Republicans are stupid enough to allow the mainstream to pick their candidate for them. There IS a good choice.
Gov. Rick Perry is a real conservative and has a real record of accomplishment. So, don't fall for the 35 year-old stories about rocks or let one bumbled answer in a debate which gets highlighted by the mainstream over and over again decide for you. Don't fall for the glitz of a polished speaker; go for the guy who can get things done; has real conservatives principles that he WILL act on as president.

It's up to Republicans to not buy into what the mainstream press and media is seeking to spoon feed us. Don't fall for it.

I usually agree with you Flanders, but you're simply all wet on this one.

Granted Romney isn't the most conservative of the bunch with Cain, Bachman, Santorum and Gingrich holding that distinction, but we all know none of them have a chance to secure the top spot for the Republicans. This is why Romney has been my man and America's best choice for 2012. Plus the fact that Romney already holds a distinct advantage over obot when the two are pitted against one another. Once Romney becomes the elected candidate for the Repubs then he'll zoom right on past the weak obot in the polls.

Romney is perhaps the most experienced businessman among the entire lot, and for that one aspect of his credentials certainly out shines the community organizing history of obot by a long shot. With the unemployment staggering over 9% now and up until election time--Romney becomes an automatic shoe in for president. Romney has also put forth his jobs plan in full detail--nothing that the other candidates can seem to muster at this point. Plus the fact that Romney looks and acts presidential cannot hurt him either.

Give up thinking that perry can make a turnaround from his two dismal debate appearances--it ain't gonna happen, the guy is toast, and his numbers keep heading southward day by day. So c-mon Flanders--we call him Mr. Mittster, next president of the U.S. of A. :sun:

    Dang..

The fact that Obama cant talk without a tele..wouldn't quite work in a debate with Romney.
The fact Obama hasn't an original thought of his own would show in a debate ..
His puppet masters couldn't control the strings fast enough..Perry like ..

    and then on Jobs..
    OBAMA fried toast...

the simple question Romney will win with.
Are you better off now than 4 years ago?

    Gas prices..food..housing.. unemployment..trade..border security..
where can Obama turn to ?

    Blame Bush.
    It could have been worst.

    but ..

It could have been MUCH better..
    4 wasted years.

To JP5: Neither Perry nor Romney pass my balance test.

I think of wannabes in terms of a balance scale. I put their positives on one tray, and their negatives on the other. If their negatives outweigh their positives I discount them.

Admittedly, I use my own judgement to determine the weight of negatives and positives. Example: Ron Paul’s HR 1146 outweighs a whole lot of negatives on my scale.

More importantly, if I make a mistake it is my mistake not somebody else’s.

To MnBillyBoy: I just can’t bring myself to trust anybody from Massachusetts; especially someone who was in Ted Kennedy’s pocket on Romney/Kennedycare. In addition to healthcare, Romney is a Northeast liberal as well as a RINO from head to toe.

Let me point out that Republican(s) In Name Only and Northeast liberals go hand in hand although RINO is a derogatory acronym used to identify some Republicans, while Northeast liberal is a term used to disparage Democrats. The fact is: A great many establishment Republicans are Northeast liberals.

Also, Northeast liberal denotes a political posture not a region of the country. It just happens that a vast majority of Northeast liberals actually do come from the Northeast.

For the record: My distrust of Romney goes back to 2008 when I did not have much use for John McCain either.

To Libhater: Let’s face it. Alfred E. Neuman would beat Hussein if the election was held today. Let’s hope Republicans don’t blow it by nominating the wrong candidate.

As to Romney’s business creds, I give Herman Cain the edge on that one. Romney’s business was consulting and investment banking, while Cain was CEO of Godfather’s Pizza. Note the difference. Romney’s firm acquired Dominoes Pizza while Cain actually made pizzas.

Cain does have one big negative that conservatives should consider. He was a deputy chairman, and later chairman, of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Cain’s connection to the Federal Reserve Bank should be explored thoroughly before conservatives hand him a pass.

On the bright side, there is an alternative. Voting for Obama has the same effect as taking cyanide except 95% of us go together.

You don't think the late Jim Jones of Jonestown fame where over 800 of his minions died from forced cyanide intake was realted to obama, do you?

I'll include those multi colored marshmallows to be politically correct.

So who do you think might be better at creating wealth ?
    A Honest,conservative investment banker ?

    or the guy making pizzas?

Ever look at how many pizza places there are in every small town..street corner,mall..or ethnic community ?

It would seem anybody can make Pizzas..even my kid..:)

Then ..when Romney saved the Olympic games and donated his 1 million dollar salary..how did he do that?
    with pizza sales?
    I think not.
When he was gov of that most evil state of Mass. and donated his salary..did
He create health care with the opposition or did the pizza guy on the corner do it ?
Did the pizza guy balance his budget in any elected office ?
    Hint..making pizzas cost about 1.80 for a product selling at $ 18

Government has a different agenda than just gouging the public ..it must do un savory things like take care of those who cant afford pizzas.
    Build roads and bridges..

and balance a budget..as in many state rules..
I cannot support anyone of any party or any gender,race.. planetary origins..
or pizza chain without showing any Government experience.
I wouldn't agree to hire a coach for my kids volleyball team without a track record of success in that field..much less President Of the United States of America.

    Hot cocoa is brewing..

To MnBillyBoy: Romney manipulated the wealth created by others. Naturally, his efforts made him very wealthy if that’s what you mean by creating wealth. I’d like to know if he got help from the tax code, and-or federal legislation and legislators.

Cain does have government experience. His stint with the previously-mentioned Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City although that’s not the kind of experience that conservatives want to see. Wags might even say that a vote for Cain is a vote for Ben Bernanke.

To be fair to Herman Cain, he has one big plus over Romney in my books. Cain played an important part in defeating Hillarycare in 1993-94. He publicly stood up to, and defeated, President Clinton in an exchange on healthcare. Compare that to Romneycare.

I responded to you about the Olympics in #10 permalink in this thread:

p.s. Let me take this opportunity to make a correction. I said “Most Americans were relieved when the 1916 Olympics went to Rio de Janeiro.” It should read 2016.

    Flanders..
What does Government do but manipulate wealth created by others???
Do you want to hire someone is quite great at that or someone who says..get rid of the system and replace it with a pizza gimmick ?

He has been vetted by the last campaign..there HAS NEVER BEEN 1 case of corruption even leveled near Romney..
Using the system or playing by the rules is the game.

Cheating..paying off deals for votes..misrepresenting..or pretending to be great at something you have never done before is just wrong.

How can Cain.. Paul..Newt and the other congress people even come close to what Romney's experience has taught ?
They cant ..no wonder its all about Religion..

    and being the better Christian.

That should give you enough pause right there....

To MnBillyBoy: Just because he never took money under the table does not mean he is incorruptible. No Supreme Court justice ever got caught taking a bribe, yet the rulings handed down by liberals on the Court is the worst form of corruption. Romneycare puts Romney in that category.

In any event, I always said I’ll take an honest crook over a do-gooder every time. Today, the country has the worst of both worlds.

Romney's a RINO. I won't vote for him in the primaries. If he were the nominee, I'd HAVE to vote for him because I REFUSE to vote for Obama. End of story there.

Although Perry has done some good things for Texas, I won't vote for him either.

I like Herman Cain. One of the reasons I do is because he's NOT a politician and has common sense. He's exactly what we need in the WH right now.

To purpledeegmblue: The bloom is off Cain’s rose. Anybody who wants to initiate a new tax cannot be trusted. Cain is proposing a new tax on top of the income tax. Logically, a sales tax must be accompanied by a new federal bureaucracy in order to implement and collect the tax.

I would grant Cain absolution for his love affair with the Federal Reserve if he said repeal the XVI Amendment first. As far as I know, he does not want to repeal the tax on income.

To MnBillyBoy: That also applies to those who vote for establishment Republicans —— then pee and moan when the government continues to grow.

Happily, a lot of American voters are learning not to trust a RINO.

    Flanders..

    Write in Mickey Mouse..

    But I wouldn't tell anybody.

You dont have to agree with some ones politics..or religion ..but give the guy his due..he is successful for a reason..
He didn't cheat on taxes..screw interns using his office position for power over women..then claim he is right for America.

That be Newt..your new tea party champion.

You wouldn't elect anybody without experience for President .. yet we did last time ..and threaten to do so this time.

While jobs and the economy tanks..everyone talks about Romneys religion and guy who mowed his lawn 6 years ago.
While we fight terrorist using the BUSH doctrine..we have a libertarian say it is illegal to do so.

    Give me a break..
Romney should have won already with this lousy group of wanna bees.
