We made crappy cars because the workers were protected by the UAW and couldn't be fired. Also and the main cause was that engineers no longer were in charge of GM, Ford, Chrysler and American Motors and it was accountants, lawyers and CEO's who never learned how to use a wrench and had a degree in business administration where in charge and the only thing that mattered was the bottom line.
We designed and manufactured junk. That's what happens when industries are hiding behind a tariff wall and don't have to compete. We have a 25% tariff on light trucks and you can see the result.
You are confusing Ford Motor Co with the liberal public education system There was nothing wrong with the design of American cars
Bullshit back to you Except for isolated major screwups like the chevy vega aluminum block engine the bSic engineering on American cars is ok But workmanship is shoddy thanks to the unions
To lighten the mood I drove a 1999 C5 corvette today. The finest automobile I have ever driven by far. I stretched its legs on a 2 mile long bridge with no one in front of me. 40 mph to 80 in the time you can take a breath. Another car I can across that kicked ass was a 240z. It is a white '71 although I don't know if its a series one or two. The only difference is the emblem placement but the 1's are premium. The confusing thing is the series 1 was made in '70 and into '71. Late 70's say the series 2. I love the tail end on these cars. Very Italian looking to me, Mac.
Uh huh. Great cars ... like the Dodge Dart where you had to remove the engine from its mounts to remove the last spark plug. Or the Pinto with the exploding gas tank.
I like the early Stingrays better than any Vette since The ‘63 split window coupe is a classic of classics
Never rode in a Pacer. My enduring AMC memory was getting parts from AMC at only 10% off and we eventually stopped having anything to do with repairing their vehicles. You might like this story...
I collected signatures to get Perot on the ballot. Still have the button. Didn't vote for him. He sounded good at first but then got nutty. IIRC. he totally crashed on burned on Meet the Press. He was clearly out of his league.
there is one other car from the era that I really like The ‘61 Impala 2-door hardtop with the 409 engine
I never did make sense of the incident in which he alleged that GHWB had thugs ruin his daughter's wedding... something like that. And what did he say about Katie Couric when she stumped him in an interview; that she wants to be a man, or similar.
