    Gay concentration camps in Chechnya
    Since February 2017, over 100 male residents of the Chechen Republic (part of the Russian Federation) assumed to be gay or bisexual have been rounded up, detained and tortured by authorities on account of their sexual orientation.[1] These crackdowns have been described as part of a systemic anti-LGBT "purge" in the region. The men are held and allegedly tortured in what human rights groups and eyewitnesses have called concentration camps.[2][3]

    Allegations were initially reported in Novaya Gazeta on April 1, 2017[4] a Russian-language opposition newspaper, which reported that over 100 men have allegedly been detained and tortured and at least three people have died in an extrajudicial killing. The paper, citing its sources in the Chechen special services, called the wave of detentions a "prophylactic sweep."[4][5] The journalist who first reported on the subject has gone into hiding,[6][7] There have been calls for reprisals for journalists reporting on the situation.[8]

    Chechnya and Russian authorities have denied any knowledge about the arrests. In response, the Russian LGBT Network is attempting to assist those who are threatened to evacuate from Chechyna.[9][10] Human rights groups and foreign governments have called upon Russia and Chechyna to put an end to the internments.[11]"

    Sorry, not exactly the same information. There is nothing said in echo that there are concentration camps for gays in Chechnya. And the fact that Chechna does not welcome gays is a known fact. This is a muslim republic, what do you want? Go to Saudi Arabia and expose that you are gay and try to make a gay parade.I garantee you will find yourself quickly in a prison.

    Two people gays are talking about bad attitude to them. But where exactly? You confuse people. The second interviewer, for example talks about Dagestan, and not Chechnya. So make another better try.

    its a clear indicator that Muscovy as an empire has done , Kremlin czars have lost for ever Monopoly_on_violence in Muscovite empire. Medvedev and Putin´s met Kadyrov they both begged him to back off from gay -hunt, but kadyrov just gave them the finger ....

    I wondered at times why kadyrov was always smiling in pictures with Putin, where Putin looked like lost his best friend:))).

    I don't see a connection between a Muslim state which Chechnya is and the west. Old school generations many times back of Islam followers. Muslims detest gays and any alternative lifestyles really so why the thread?

    Wait I looked back up and your main contention for this thread is that Russia supported the Chechnyan leadership in denying the claim.

    Then you cry out for the West to stop such things from happening IE Russia is the boogeyman? Cmon..

    Now that Jehovah's Witness ruling. That's real ammunition for some Russian criticism but we already have a thread on that.

    TLDR- Don't be gay in Chechnya or you will be persecuted violently and its all the Russians fault.. Kinda.. Well some..Ok not at all

    I do not see the point here. So what that gays are treated like that in Chechnya/Dagestan? Why should we care about it? They know how they are treated in muslim communities, so it is their choice to stay there or to move somewhere else. And this is rediculous to blame Putin that he does not defend gays in Chechnya. He has many other more important issues to take care.

    If true that's absolutely horrible. I'd like more evidence than "some source" however.

    Also, this isn't a cause for war or anything, it's their territory, as much as this disgusts me, they can do what they want. Same with North Korea executing political dissenters. It slays me inside, but that's their domestic policy.

    I think that means that Putin is not happy that there are talks about this subject and probably something will be done. Although Kadyrov is his friend, it does not mean that he can do whatever he wants in Chechnya. Chechnya is still in Russia and obeys Russian civil laws, and not to shariat laws. If Kadyrov would be stubborn- no way he will be again a governor in Chechnya. Do not forget there will be soon elections there...

    Common Litwin, Kadyrov has 0 chances against FSB. And well, Kadyrov is not supported anywhere apart from Chechnya.
