Show Trump's whole quote about Putin. What are you afraid of?

Trump lost the election because he says things that are stupid or can be twisted against him. He should not have said that but please provide the full quote. Show it.

Russia plans to threaten to kill Ukrainians who don't surrender, US official says
From CNN's Kylie Atwood and Jennifer Hansler

The Biden administration believes that Russia will threaten to kill the families of Ukrainian soldiers if they do not surrender, a US official said on Friday amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Our information also indicates that Russia plans to threaten killing the family members of Ukrainian soldiers if they do not surrender,” the official said, who also commended the “incredible bravery” that the Ukrainians showed in the first day of fighting.
The State Department did not immediately respond when asked why the US believes that this is what the Russians will do.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has recently warned of the possibility of widespread human rights abuses against the Ukrainian people carried out by Russia.

“All evidence suggests that Russia intends to encircle and threaten Kyiv, and we believe Moscow has developed plans to inflict widespread human rights abuses – and potentially worse – on the Ukrainian people,” he said on Thursday.

Ukraine’s foreign minister echoed US concerns about the possibility of forthcoming human rights abuses on Friday. Citing intelligence, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said there could be Russian false flag operations that would erroneously cast the Ukrainians as the aggressors.

“According to intelligence, Russia plans a massive false flag operation to ‘dehumanize’ Ukrainians and accuse Ukraine of alleged inhuman actions. Don’t trust fakes. Ukraine defends its land in a just and defensive war. Unlike Russia, we don’t target kindergartens and civilians,” Kuleba tweeted.

The US official also said the Kremlin is carrying out a disinformation campaign to suggest a large number of Ukrainian troops have already surrendered to Russian forces.

“We commend the Ukrainian people for showing strength and determination in response to an unprovoked attack by a significantly larger military,” the official said, adding “We are concerned, however, that Russia plans to discourage them and induce surrender through disinformation. Our information indicates Russia is creating a disinformation campaign by publicizing false reports about the widespread surrender of Ukrainian troops.”

On Thursday President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 137 people were killed during the first day of Russia's invasion, but he said that they died a “heroic death” and that they did not surrender.

I think Russia threatening to kill innocent people warrants going in to Ukraine to join the fight, frankly. We've been fighting terrorists, including state sponsored terrorists, for a long time. Why stop or make an exception for Putin's terrorists?

Energy policy. It’s all predicated on energy policy. We blew it and now instead of us having the ability to negotiate from a position of strength, Putin has that position.

He made us and Europe dependent on fossil fuels from Russia. We can’t stop buying and he knows it. He orchestrated it for the most part. There are consequences to foolish energy policies we have pursued. This is one of them.

Europe has that problem more than we do since they have to import most of their energy and don't have a lot of sources nearby. Our dependence only goes so far as supply vs demand and the effects on price. You have to remember that we can't force our industry to drill, drill, drill to the point that prices are too low for them to afford it. When the price of oil went back down, they gave up on shale. If this conflict raises prices on a permanent basis, we should probably see shale come back.

Otherwise, our best bet is to keep moving away from dependence on fossil fuels. That would really leave Putin's little fiefdom in a tough spot, because aside from nuclear threats, fossil fuels are his only leverage.

Yeah, Russia proved that its military is sh!t.
We might as well go in and help Ukraine regain all of its territory back.

That’s right. Energy is his only power. It’s how he can afford materiel and how he can tell NATO to pound sand. NATO needs him.

Europe claims the mantle of green energy and look how dependent they still are on Putin.

Buying stuff cheaper than we can make it has made us indentured servants to Russia and China. There is no way out now.

US will provide "additional security assistance" to Ukraine, Pentagon says
    From CNN's Ellie Kaufman

The US is “going to provide additional security assistance” to Ukraine, but “how it will be done is still being worked out,” Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said Friday.

“We’re very actively engaged in those efforts, to help them better defend themselves through both lethal and non-lethal assistance,” Kirby said during a press briefing at the Pentagon.

He added that he hasn’t detailed every shipment of aid to Ukraine that the US has made because of the security situation.

“I have not been detailing for any of you each and every package, each and every shipment, because I think you can understand and it’s particularly relevant now that Ukraine is involved in a no-kidding invasion of their country, that we wouldn’t want to put it out there in the public space everything that they’re getting from the United States,” Kirby said.

Ukrainian president: "This night will be very difficult"
    From CNN's Tim Lister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his country Friday night, saying, "This night will be very difficult, and the enemy will use all available forces to break the resistance of Ukrainians."

Zelensky advised that "we have to stand ground," adding, "the fate of Ukraine is being decided right now."

As part of his late-night message, Zelensky told Ukrainians:

"It was a difficult but courageous day. We are fighting for our country on all frontlines: in the South, East, North, in many cities of our beautiful country."
Zelensky went on to say that Ukraine is, "also fighting on the diplomatic frontline."

"It’s easier to count who out of the world leaders I haven’t spoken yet," he said.

The Russians are sending the message to the Ukrainian military that they will execute the families of Ukrainian soldiers.

This is just as terrible as Hitler's tactics

Ukrainian President confirms Russian forces are advancing on Kyiv from the north and east
    From Tim Lister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russian forces are closing in on Kyiv, advancing on the capital from the north and the east.

In his late-night video message Friday, Zelensky told Ukrainians:

"Our main goal is to finish this slaughter. The enemy losses are very grave — today there were hundreds of killed soldiers who crossed our border and came on our land."
Zelensky added, "unfortunately, we also suffer losses. Ukrainians resist the Russian aggression heroically. This aggression cannot be justified, so the occupiers have to come up with more absurd accusations to say at least something."

After taking an airbase just north of the city on Thursday, Russian forces are now close to the capital of Kyiv. They are also advancing along two routes from the north and at least one from the east.

Heavy fighting reported to the south of Kyiv
    From CNN's Jonny Hallam

Ukrainian armed forces have reported heavy fighting around Vasylkiv, a city located about 18 miles south of the country's capital, Kyiv.

"Heavy fighting is currently underway in the town of Vasylkiv in the Kyiv region, where the occupiers are trying to land a landing party," the armed forces said.
Russian forces are also advancing toward Kyiv from both the north and the east.

It does seem that the large amphibious operation in the SE is solely for experience. Was it really necessary to incorporate that into the strategy when the enemy is surrounded already on all sides?

Yes, we need to have a presence in Australia that could rival a Chinese force sent to Taiwan, and it needs to be obvious to even a casual observer that it is ready to go in response to any movement on Taiwan. If the Aussies will have us. We also need a much larger presence committed to NATO countries to make it very obvious we intend to defend. And hey Finland, border country to Russia, wanna join NATO?

True. My grandparents were Nazi supporters. Very civilized people. My grandfather was on the Eastern front.
None taken. I think that psychologically though Russia gets a bit neurotic and antsy when NATO is tucked up right up against its border and enmeshed within Russian-speaking areas. I don't think this kind of behaviour would be common to Russia. Look at how the US and allied have behaved historically against countries that were no direct threat, let alone banked up against the border. (List below doesn't include any covert Ops) "Nipping it in the bud", it's called? Of course, we know US and Allies are The Good Guys and Russia are the Baddies :)

No, not take territory but they've been trying to push out Russians from the Donbass. Not in a coordinated official way, but nevertheless to some effect. Bill Carson has some interesting posts. (But, of course, they won't knowledge any Russian meddling.)
Yes I think you've hit the nail on the head, actually The buffer countries have unique challenges.

Also there are a LOT of Russian speakers in Ukraine. It's quite the melting pot, which makes matters far more complicated. Frankly, some regions are more Russian than they are Ukrainian and the Ukrainian nationalists haven't been too adept at sharing.

I think Taiwan will be the next litmus test. In a sense we have far less of a contractual obligation to defend Taiwan, so on paper it doesn't look good. Frankly, if we fail that test we might as well say: "take it all".

Taiwan is not defenseless and China's forces don't have much combat experience.

Yes, I feel like on the seas China has the advantage because it's so close. But it could be a different story once they hit the land, particular if Taiwan is backed up swiftly with allied troops and air support on the island.
