The United States is not going to share its absolute world domination with anyone. Why would Washington need China if it could grow into an equal competitor to the US?

Because China doesn’t seem to be doing anything that would piss off the west. They are more than welcome to dominate Russian Far East - we just don’t care. We live in 21st century, there is no need to send in the military garrisons and physically control the area, and if China wants to dominate those areas and invest into building infrastructure that suits its needs - why should we object? ;)

The Russians definitely should consider hiring some protection. They have nothing to fear from democracies unless they start trouble, but Red China has no such compunctiuons.

The Russians "withdraw" when they're losing. Russia is good at propaganda if nothing else.

Russian lawmaker warns Poland is next in line for 'denazification after Ukraine'
    Greg Norman
    Fri, May 13, 2022, 1:33 PM

A Russian lawmaker is warning Friday that recent comments from Poland’s leaders are encouraging Moscow to "put it in first place in the queue for denazification after Ukraine."

Russian State Duma Deputy Oleg Morozov, using language Russia has sought to justify its bloody invasion of Ukraine, made the remark on his Telegram page, according to Russian state media.

"By its statements about Russia as a 'cancer tumor' and about the 'indemnity' that we must pay to Ukraine, Poland encourages us to put it in first place in the queue for denazification after Ukraine," Morozov reportedly wrote.

    ... https://news.yahoo.com/russian-lawmaker-warns-poland-next-183320526.html

Of course, Russia will never be in a position to go to Poland when it can't even handle Ukraine, but talk is easy..

Actually Donetsk and Lugansk asked Russia if they could unite with them at Minsk I and Minsk II. Vladimir Putin said no because they were too intertwined with Ukraine. This is why the Minsk II agreement specified that Kiev should be decentralized; the country federalized so the rights of all the people can be secured, and that the Donbass and Russian areas should be given special rights.

I found out recently that the reason Putin closed the border and thereby forced the militias to go to Minsk in 2014 and not free Mariupol and Odessa, was to keep the water supply since it went to Mariupol as well.

Anyway the only reason Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Transnistria, Kherson. S. Ossetia, Abhazia, and even some non speaking Russian areas such as Gaugazia in Moldova and the Rusyans in Ukraine who were always part of Hungary want to be part of Russia, is for protection.

This doesn't say much for their neighbors or the governments they are now under. At least in Russia all the states in the Federation are equally respected and are able to retain their language and heritage.

I have no doubt that the United States today would like to get rid of its future main threat.
    -------------------------------------------------- --------------------
"I think China is the biggest national security challenge for the US in the next 50 to 100 years," Gen. Mark Milley said Thursday at a confirmation hearing for the chairmanship of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Russians have something to be afraid of. The United States denied Russia the right to equal security with the United States and have not talked about peaceful coexistence for a long time.

All countries that have joined the EU eventually deploy US military bases on their territory. And the United States does not give any guarantees to Russia and can begin to destroy it at any suitable time.

That’s OK - China is a lot more rational world player. There is also interdependency thing going that China values. ;)

Durandel - You mistake humanity and the desire to preserve human lives as weakness. Well how about some reality:

Right now, the Ukrainian army could be facing a defeat of historic proportions. Territorial losses are heavy as well as the human losses and arms. Russia has tightened the cordon and occupied the settlement of Vojevodivka, the entire city of Rubizhne, and set up a bridgehead at Pryvillya.

They have also occupied the settlements of Dolgenkoye, Seversky Donetsk, Belogorovka while the two cities; Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, are receiving multiple attacks from different sides. The Ukrainians will either have to retreat completely or suffer a lot of bloodshed as Severodonetsk is not like Mariupol and doesn't have an Azovstal for the Ukrainians to fortify in with their human shields.

Anyway there are a lot more battles going on, this is just some of it.

Russia offers equal security. But the US doesn't need it. They want to win and take over the whole world.

When China creates a nuclear balance with the US, it will be accused of all the sins of the world. Just like today Russia is accused.

The only “equal” thing that Russia offers is misery. From the military and political perspective, Russia already entered the era of irrelevancy that will most likely end with full collapse.

If China sticks to internationally recognized borders then everything will be OK. ;)
Besides, they’ll be preoccupied with establishing dominance in former Russian Far East.

    And on the economic front:

Russia's economy is doing just fine, but can we say the same? Twenty nations in the EU are now paying for gas in rubles, As for grain, the EU had hoped of getting it from India, but India doesn't have enough to spare because of their massive heat wave.

There is grain though in the areas of Ukraine under Russia, so much so that the silos are full and rather than have the grain rot, it's being transferred to Russia. The money from sales of the grain, will go to Ukraine to rebuild the cities destroyed by Kiev. As for oil, well the Greek shipping families who control Greece, said they will deliver Russian oil to whoever they want and whenever they want and if Mitsotakis says differently he's out.

If China is surrounded by missile bases, then it will cease to recognize any borders.
