I agree with him. Ukraine lost a long time ago. Now the Russians are turning the EU and US economy into a pumpkin. And in parallel they are conducting a mop-up operation, just like the US military expert said in the US publication.

I think the author is right. All that's left is the cleanup.
See for yourself - without NATO, Ukraine has no army. Moreover, even with NATO, Ukraine has no cannon fodder left. Physically no cannon fodder left. The Russians are now destroying the remnants of the Ukrainian rabble. (In other words, the Russians are now mopping up Ukraine.)
Next... Without the west, there is physically no way for ukraine to exist economically - they are completely bankrupt. (In other words, western taxpayers' money has been wasted. It's your money)
Politically, ukraine is a stinking corpse.
The Russians are slowly doing the cleanup only because by doing so they are turning the west into a stinking economic corpse like ukraine.
And that's a wise strategy. Bravo to Putin.
By the way, look at how people live in Russia today. (And yet the Russians are cleaning up Ukraine, the Russians are cleaning up Syria, the Russians are cleaning up Africa.)
