Both Russia, that is, President Putin and his government officials, and Ukraine have hunkered down for a long war.* Each side is supported by other nations: Russia by China, Iran and North Korea, Ukraine by the NATO nations. On both sides are both military top brass and the manufacturers of the weapons -- offensive and defensive -- of war. For them, the Ukraine is an excellent proving ground. New armaments can be added and the results evaluated. Profits can be gathered. Fortunes can be accumulated. Thus far, this appears to be an area little-explored by journalists.
