There's two factors that play into this. First, they know how much deplorables hate being mocked, so this will galvanize Trump supporters and help Trump win. Second, they also know that a fool like Trump winning the presidency is proof that the American system of government doesn't work well. They do have contempt for Trump and his supporters (deservedly), but he is better for their interests.

It is interesting that they've gone from publicly backing Trump to talking like this, and I don't know if it's part of a wider shift or if this is something of an exception to the rule. Might be they want to create the illusion of distance after being so overtly pro-Trump that there are perhaps fears that the association could harm Trump politically in the coming election. Being seen as a friend and ally to Putin is not helpful to any American presidential candidate right now, so maybe they just want to do their part to help Trump this way.
It's Russia mind games, - pretending to favor Biden is the classic "kiss of Judas". Of course they want Trump to win. Insulting Trump supporters is designed to motivate them to supporters him even more
My thoughts on this, simplify the motive and chalk it up to Duginism style propaganda where up is down and down is up. It's all about flooding the zone with **** and mentally wearing "you" out.
