TOKYO (Sputnik) — The floor leader of the South Korean ruling Democratic Party, Woo Won-shik, said Wednesday Seoul would consider the possibility of uninstalling and sending the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system back to the United States. "We have to look into issues including the possibility of sending back THAAD, if it has not properly undergone domestic legal procedures," Yonhap news agency quoted Woo as saying during a radio interview. The parliamentarian referred to the lack of parliamentary approval of this crucial national security decision. The statement comes after a statement made by US President Donald Trump in late April, in which he informed Seoul that "it would be appropriate if they paid" for the deployment of a US THAAD system on South Korean soil. © REUTERS/ USFK/YONHAP South Korean President Wants to Resolve THAAD Problem in Talks With US, China South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who officially assumed office on May 10, has repeatedly criticized the previous government under impeached leader Park Geun-hye for agreeing to host the THAAD system without seeking parliamentary approval. In April, media reported, citing a US military official, that the THAAD system in South Korea would be operational in the very near future. In July 2016, Washington and Seoul reached an agreement on placing a US THAAD system in South Korean territory. In early March the THAAD deployment began in response to North Korea’s ballistic missile tests. The move provoked sharp criticism by a number of countries, including China, which claimed the installment of the missile defense system would undermine its security. South Korea finally shows middle finger to the US Of course they would, why would they risk their lives for the US interests? They've already been facing enough threats everyday from their Northern brothers. The US is losing everywhere...
Haha. Good, it's not our problem if they voluntarily give us back our weapons. They can now reap the consequences. What a bunch of idiots. Just pay for it. If not, no sweat off our back.
Koreans say: "take these, shove it right up and don't even think giving something we didn't ask you to" And yes, it's really good...
I have no idea who you might be trying to convince that removing an effective, and purely defensive weapon that protects 100's of millions of lives, is a good idea. 50 million S. Koreans cannot agree that US withdrawal would be good for them. Kim doesn't hate the US. Kim hates democracy, individual prosperity, and free expression. S. Korea is his bane. He will invade or destroy S. Korea.
Only because we're the messengers of democracy. Kim wants to rule the entire peninsula. He expends a lot of resources concealing S. Koreas freedom & prosperity from his populace. He blames us.
I don't care convincing anybody or who's convinced by what I say. The fact of the matter is those weapons systems put there, regardless of them being purely defensive, are enough to provoke the North because it is to say to an already anti western country that its enemy in the south is backed and supported by the west. Same goes for China when it heavily reacted to FON abuse by the US in the south Pacific. The region's powers DO NOT want the west coming from thousands of miles for interfering in their own local problems... Therefore any western weapon system is a poke for high tension... Thats why the South Korean RULING PARTY says NO to the systems...
Hahaha ... does locking your doors provoke burglars? Immunization provokes disease? Umbrellas provoke the skies? Kims apparently not cornered the market on crazy.
How come you can use democracy in the same sentence with the west (assuming we is the west in your post) while it has a very long list of massacres and illegal occupations of countries, forcing and dictating their own sh.it upon people without even asking if they had any desires for any change in that sort of direction and moreover leaving their homes in ruins, exploiting, stealing their natural resources? Nobody asks no protection from the stupid west. They can shove it right up..!
Examplifying and comparing "Weapons systems" with "petty crimes and vaccines"... And the world's trying to find out why our valuable O2 is diminishing... Some living organisms must breathe less...
those weapon are there to protect US troop station near, and other US/Skorean base near that area. It can't protect Seoul, too far.
The THAAD system could be redeployed to Japan, which is North Korea's main target. Japan is leaning toward choosing the Aegis Ashore missile-defense system. South Koreans are too sympathetic toward North Korea and they think the deployment of the THAAD system is an unnecessary provocation. Especially the new Korean president is a proponent of the Sunshine Policy.
The South Koreans don't need THAAD, it's only aggravating the Chinese who have their own missile defense systems and are much better placed to defend the Korean Peninsula. A nuclear bomb in South Korea would see a toxic cloud over north eastern China, they have much to lose. I think the Chinese has outmaneuvered the US with their new Open China policy, countries in the Asia region like South Korea now understand US support comes with a heavy price... in a conflict situation it means being bombed into the Stone age...
