At first, when I saw this, I thought they were just not announcing publicly who won the awards. But they're astoundingly not telling the actual award winners that they won! I'm surprised the students aren't notified directly but can you imagine the gall of these *********kers, not telling the children that they won awards simply because they have the audacity not to be black? Unbelievable!

It appears the public school system has been infiltrated by enemies of the country and the constitution many years ago.

They want to attempt to achieve equity by bringing the top down rather than bringing the bottom up. It doesn't work.

    According to this article
the school failed to properly notify students and their parents of the commendations, though semifinalists were notified by the school and featured in a list published each September by Fairfax County Public Schools.

After being made aware of the issue they responded with:
“FCPS understands the hard work and dedication of each and every student who competes for college acceptance and scholarship opportunities. Once the issue regarding the fall 2022 notifications was realized, counselors sent emails and made follow-up calls to each college where these students had applied and informed them of the National Merit Scholarship Commendations,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We are continuing to look into this matter and will take any necessary steps to ensure consistency in appropriate and timely notification of National Merit recognitions going forward.”

Raising a generation of kids to believe that we are all winners no matter what is not going to end well for society

Sounds like they think participation trophies should be the ONLY trophies anyone gets.

Why should we believe their unverifiable post-shitstorm damage control when their pre-viral statement showed the withholding was intentional and in keeping with their 'anti-racism' blah blah blah woketard policy?

The premise of the OP is total crap.
Did the school withhold notification to the students....apparently yes and it seems to be deliberate. Does it have anything to do with a "equitable grading policy"....not a damn thing. The only thing in common is the word "merit".

Progs: We are the more educated party and therefor our ideology cannot questioned.

Also progs: Education standards must be reduced the the lowest common denominator so no ones fee-fees get hurt.

Sorry progs, your 'education' isn't worth nearly as much as you think it is. I've seen your programs and I've seen their output and it's laughably inferior. You take on massive amounts of debt to attend indoctrination factories, learning about the 200+ genders and how to be a radical perpetually outraged victim, then you graduate with a useless degree, end up going into food service or retail working for barely more than minimum wage and whining about how it's everyone else fault responsibility to subsidize all while continuing to vote for the very cabal of prog overlords that put you into this position in the first place.

Let's carry this wokeness through adulthood. If the NFL followed this policy we wouldn't know who won yesterday's games, individual player statistics or even the team standings, plus every team would win the Super Bowl. I no longer follow football, but it wouldn't surprise me if they started doing this. To take it even further, we wouldn't know who won or lost elections and we'd never know the vote count.

Wokeness is a horrible, horrible disease.

Which isn’t inconsistent with the thread. They should notify winners. Shouldn’t be an issue, nor is such a thing reasonably perceived as a common mistake.

    Did I say you should?
It’s simply their response — you are free to believe whatever you want as you always do
