Schumer now gets a taste of the same medicine he has been dishing out. He does what he thinks is best for the country and his party has turned against him. He had to cancel his book tour for security reasons due to threats from his fellow liberals. Even if he announces he is now trans gender he is still toast. Or he could say he's a Jew in support of Israel and the republicans might welcome him. He has now felt the wrath of his fellow Trump haters. Oh, the irony.

He demonstrated that he has no back bone, and the popularity of his party crashed accordingly. They need new leadership.

If he had forced a government shutdown he would have gotten 100% of the blame and the approval rating of Democrats would be even lower. Congressional Democrats picked a very stupid fight that they couldn't win regardless of the outcome. It should have been an easy clean spending bill to vote yes on. Democrats put the rake on the floor and then intentionally stepped on it like a bunch of idiots.

I keep hearing that. Why is that so?
He could have made some popular demands and gotten something for the vote or said the Republicans are at fault for not giving it.

I read it was a rare case where Republicans actually needed the votes of some Democrats. Seems like a rare opportunity to me. Were the roles reversed, I am pretty certain Republicans would have gotten something they wanted out of this.

If the GOP needed Dems to vote for their bill, why didn't they work with the Dems to come up with a bill that would be acceptable? No, they did my way or the highway. And then, they had the gall to blame the Dems if the bill hadn't been approved.

In any case, I think Schumer did the right thing, to protect government workers. The shutdown would have furloughed workers, and would have given Trump/Musk the chance to never bring them back after the furlough.

On the other hand, Schumer and the Dems have to start finding a spine and fighting back. So far, they have been overwhelmed by Trump flooding the zone. They need to find a strategy and stick with it, for example start the fight against the coming tax cuts for the rich.

It's reason for objections in the other direction. The Democratic Party should be reformed with new leadership. Schumer sold them out.

The only one I see out there doing anything is Bernie with the events he has been holding. Schumer and Jeffries look completely feckless.

Schumer has not been much of a party leader. We haven't had a leader in the Senate since Harry Reid retired. However, there is leadership material in the Senate. Durbin was also a disappointment. Adam Schiff lacks seniority but you just KNOW he will eventually become the Senate Leader.

Yep, all due to hating Donald Trump. As long as democrats act on their hate Trump emotion they will stay in the toilet.

Adam Schiff is the male version of AOC. I fully support the Democrats making him their leader.

AOC was voted as most in line with the Democratic Party.

Sounds good to me! AOC could also one day be in a high leadership position. She's still young but she could very well one day become the Speaker. A VERY smart lady indeed!

Great! Let's all let our congress reps know!

LOL @ Adam Schiff. Democrats don't have the House, Senate, or the White House. Schumer had two options, allow the government to shut down or vote for a clean continuing resolution. People who wanted to shut down our government to "save" it are hilarious. Schumer has no leverage. The CR originated in the House, went to the Senate, and he has no authority to push legislation or schedule a vote.

The big problem with his strategy was that he promised to vote to shut down the government over the Republican spending plan until he didn’t. If he had said up front that he didn’t think shutting down the government was not a good strategy at this point, and explained why, he might have faced a smaller blow back. Instead he pulled the rug out from under the Democrats at the last minute.

I don’t care if this is a joke, the thought of Adam Schiff rising higher on the Democrat leadership team is nauseating. :bucktooth:

I have long held that AOC is the heart and intellectual soul of the Democrat Party.

Schumer made the right choice. Any politician of any party using a government shutdown as leverage, scratch that, any politician from any party not doing literally everything in their power to avoid a government shutdown are worthless hacks who deserve to be voted out of office. This issue is NOT ammunition for negotiation. I'm tired of the both parties threatening to let the government shutdown. It's pure theater and beyond stupidity.

Smart -- based on what? Oh yeah, she used to be a waitress and a bartender. She is nothing but a left-wing progressive who wants the government to provide everything free for slackers. That only works until the government runs out of other people's money. She is a female version of Bernie Sanders. She could never get elected outside of NY.

If there was never reason to vote against it, they wouldn't have to vote.

Exactly! Somebody who raises from waitress to a position of such power that MAGAs can't get her off their minds HAS to be extremely smart!

The sky's the limit for this lady!

Compare that to a billionaire who believes that passing a cognitive test designed to detect dementia is the ultimate sign of intellectual prowess.

Which reminds me... ha we seen the results of Trump's most recent cognitive tests? We used to hear about them every time. I wonder why we don't hear about them anymore. Hmmmm

I wholeheartedly welcome AOC becoming the Democrat’s leader in the House of Representatives. I would like to have her demonstrate to everyone in the country what the Democrats are all about.

Yep! All about protecting the laws, the Constitution and people's rights. So they can compare that to Trump who ignores the law and is all about harming people and tramples over people's rights. She would DEFINITELY convey that to We The People.
