White House press secretary says 'science should not stand in the way' of school reopenings before claiming 'the science is on our side' https://www.businessinsider.com/kay...uld-not-stand-in-way-school-reopenings-2020-7

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday President Donald Trump "unmistakably" wanted US schools to open and that "the science should not stand in the way of this."

McEnany was asked about school districts across the country deciding to hold online-only classes when the academic year begins in the fall. "What does the president say to parents out there who say, 'OK, what do I do with my kids?'" a reporter asked.

"The president has said unmistakably that he wants schools to open," McEnany replied. "I was just in the Oval talking to him about that, and when he says open, he means open and full, kids being able to attend each and every day at their school.

"The science should not stand in the way of this, and as Dr. Scott Atlas said — I thought this was a good quote — 'Of course we can do this. Everyone in the Western world; our peer nations are doing this. We are the outlier here,'" McEnany said.

What am I missing here? This statement has me totally dismayed. Are we supposed to follow CDC recommendations or not? Isn't the CDC a US government agency in service for the good of the population of Americans?

Is the CDC on the Trump 'bad' list now? Should we throw the CDC on the trash heap with the EPA, the FBI, the DOJ, the Pentagon, etc? Is there any Federal Government agency that we are supposed to put our faith in anymore? Do we have a Dept of Justice or a Dept of Just Us?

    Masks mandatory
    rapid testing and results
    Contact tracing procedure

    Spread the kids out.

Do those things and brick and mortar school can happen.

And the truth is, Trump wants schools open because they function as friggin day care.

He doesn't care about the health of children or teachers or school staff

    Not one bit

"On Tuesday, the Trump administration changed its coronavirus reporting rules to require hospitals to bypass the CDC and submit information directly to the Department of Health and Human Services, as The New York Times first reported. The following day, the hospital capacity maps on the CDC’s website were removed.

Many health experts responded with outrage, accusing the administration of suppressing the information for political purposes and further burdening already-strained hospitals.

“We’re in the middle of the worst pandemic in 100 years. More than 137,000 Americans have died,” tweeted Dr. Tom Frieden, the former director of the CDC. “Covid is exploding in Arizona, Texas, South Carolina, Florida, and other states. And the administration has chosen to sideline the CDC. Where did this data go?”

“It was frustrating that something as basic as data on hospitalizations and ICUs — two of the most critical metrics we use to allocate resources and [measure demand] — disappeared,” he added. “What we’ve seen with this administration is that they’re willing to politicize anything.”

“Public health experts face two opponents: covid-19, but also political leaders and others attempting to undermine the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” they wrote. “We’re seeing the terrible effect of undermining the CDC play out in our population. Willful disregard for public health guidelines is, unsurprisingly, leading to a sharp rise in infections and deaths.”

Trumps only real talent is making things a lot worse.

School openings are up to the Gov's. This panel is repeating flat out lies about Kayleigh's point. And the Lying Fake News Media is puzzled why they are short on credibility? They have an irrational fear of strong intelligent women.

WOMAN FULL OF BINDERS: ‘So sorry this is happening to you!’ MSNBC hack just can’t deal with pic of Kayleigh Enany’s briefing materials.

Remember when these same aholes harassed Josh Earnest all of the time as well?

    Oh, wait.

    They didn’t.

Man, Kayleigh McEnany gets under their skin. Between the line they took out of context to this ridiculousness about her being organized and able to answer any question during a presser, they’ve really let their masks slip.

Reuters photographer jonathan ernst got this shot today of press secy. Kayleigh Mcenany's briefing materials:

OMG, NOT TABS IN A BINDER! THE HORROR!

What is it with Lefties flipping out over binders? Is it some sort of anti-organization thing with them?

Seriously, they just need to get a freakin’ grip.

That would indicate she is prepared. Maybe that's why she keeps humiliating the press and their pointless chatter.

Imagine thinking someone being prepared for their job is a bad thing.

Really? You think doing those things will let you have a regular school year? I got a good chuckle reading that. We are talking about kids. You think kids are going to adhere to all the things they need to do during a regular school day? This is just one teacher's opinion and really tells you what teachers have to deal with. They are underpaid to begin with and you think they are going to be able to afford all this extra stuff. Just read this and see if in-person schooling can happen.

Actually, a lot of PARENTS want schools open because they "function as friggin day care". This has been a genuine hardship on some parents where both parents work. Or single parent homes where the Mom works.

There are also a lot of kids who rely on school for nutritious meals.

There are kids so poor and in such bad living conditions at "home" that school is a break for them; a chance to escape the filth of home, or the sight of Mom drugged out of her mind smoking on the couch, or pimping herself out for drugs.

It's a chance for teachers to keep an eye on kids and note neglect and abuse.

I've read multiple articles discussing the psychological need for children to return to school.

It's also the only hope for most kids to learn, because a lot of parents are just too stupid and/or lazy to teach their kids, and a lot of the rest of the decent parents are at work all day.

Why is it ok for a Walmart clerk or a gas station cashier (or any of the other myriad of "essential" workers) to keep working, but somehow teachers are not safe to return to school? Why can kids go to birthday parties, summer camps, and even Disney World, but they're not safe to return to school?

I have friends who are teachers or school board members. They're kind of divided. Some are worried about the kids and the reality of their home lives and they want them back in school. Some know these kids aren't going to learn a thing at home. Some look at this as a paid vacation. Some are scared of COVID. Some pretend to be scared of COVID because they look at this as a paid vacation. Some are scared of COVID but they think the benefits outweigh the risks. Some are in an at risk category for COVID ---- older, obese, heart problems. It's a mixed bag.

I don't think there is a one size fits all solution.

But I lean towards reopening schools, even in a limited capacity. And it has nothing to do with politics.

There are alternatives to using schools as day care and nutritional substitutes but that would require leadership.

Why would we be looking for that?

Because we are in the middle of a PANDEMIC THAT KILLED ONE THOUSAND PEOPLE JUST YESTERDAY
