All right Mr. President. Your time to shine.

You shut down schools. Now teachers and administrators arent working. Now one parent from every household has to stay home and take off from work. Now half the country is staying home so every business is half as productive. The market crashes. People cant pay their mortgages or car payments. Millions default on their loans.

The virus spreads anyway, slower mind you, but the economy is wrecked and people cant afford to buy Ramen. People still get sick but who cares because thousands of small businesses have already closed so they dont have jobs to go to anyway.

You failed. Please restart and try again.

I agree that the largest threat is to the economy.

We'll do an experiment on this. Washington, Oregon, and California will be the first to panic and shut down schools, businesses and tourist events. Let's see how that goes for them. Washington State's Gov. Inslee has already declared a state of emergency and says he will use the National Guard if necessary. I'm curious what would be the National Guard's role exactly. Riot control when they lockdown people or drag them against their will for testing (just like China)? Just guessing.

That's ridiculous. "If it bleeds it leads". You think they WOULDN'T be covering this story if someone else was President? Not a chance in hell. People are glued to the news right now and it has very little to do with Trump, other than some sniping from the sidelines.

I think the narrative under which they're covering it would be different if someone else was president.

Yeah, they are. They're doing "virtual teaching". It won't be effective, but they're going to get paid.
    https://hrasiamedia.com/featured-ne...rts-worlds-largest-work-from-home-experiment/

Schools do close every year for months at a time. Summer Break.

But you're right. The economic impacts of closing the schools will be enormous here. Most households need two incomes to live anything resembling a "middle class" life, and I don't really see a boom in daycare happening while a pandemic rages. So, yeah, one person in the household will stay home, and it will cause chaos when tens of millions of parents are having to do that months before the end of the school year.

But I don't see us NOT closing schools. We're already doing it. You can't keep a school open when a kid/school employee tests positive for this. No parent on Earth would send their kids. Well, some would, but very few. When people in L.A., Chicago, New York, etc. start testing positive, I fully expect us to do what other countries are doing: close the schools. At least in places that are hard hit, and that will be every city in the country before too long.

So, if we're eventually going to close the schools, let's do it now, while we can slow this thing.

And since we're assuming I'm running things, I would deficit spend and just start sending checks out to middle-class families. Everyone making less than $100,000 a year would get a payroll tax holiday and $1,000 a month (you can phase the money out gradually, until you reach income levels of $500,000 a year or so. Those people don't need extra money) to mitigate the economic affects. It would play hell with the debt and deficit, it wouldn't be nearly enough, but it would help. This is the time for running up deficits.

I think you can do this without completely wrecking the economy. More to the point, if you DON'T take measures now, the strain on the healthcare system will become unbearable.

It's kind of a moot point. Mass school closures are coming. There are really no good options here. Just bad ones and worse ones.

    Yeah, I agree with that.

Trump gave Obama hell during the Ebola scare. Turnabout is fair play.

You think Ebola was a mountain? And coronavirus is a molehill?

I think the only difference is the political alignment of who would be arguing "this is not a significant threat" and who would be arguing "the administration is ****ing up."

Currently, it is the conservatives making the former and liberals making the later. When the Ebola virus was the threat, the roles were switched.

That is in mother ****ing China. I'd venture to guess less than 1% of US schools could tele-teach right now if they had to.

So, yeah, no big deal. We'll have teachers administer ACT tests over Facebook Live because right now there is no standard online teaching program.

You think students at Malcolm X High School have the ability to teach from home?

    Are you serious right now?

I'm all for closing schools but that will absolutely wreck the economy. The economic impact of this wont be felt for weeks, and every day this worsens is another day we will be hard pressed to find milk down the road.

K, but this is the media doing it, not Obama.

I don't think it would be effective at all. I think it's just a way to justify paying teachers.

Do you want to make money, or do you want to slow the spread? We'll do what other countries are currently doing: close schools. the CDC has already been talking about it. So has Mick Mulvaney. And schools are closed because of Covid as I type this. It's only going to get worse as more cases pop up.

CNN and MSNBC certainly hate Trump. Kind of like how FoxNews hated on Obama all those years. Remember the tan suit episode? Saluting with a coffee cup in hand?

Continuing with large political rallies at this stage is downright irresponsible.
France has banned all indoor public gatherings of over 5000 people.
Sporting events around the world are also being postponed.
The Olympic games are at high risk of being canceled.
For Trump and Saunders to still be holding rallies with thousands of attendees just shows how little either of them understand this virus.

You responded to a post about Trump bashing Obama over ebola by saying "Mountain vs molehill."

If you aren't calling ebola a mountain and coronavirus a molehill, what are you trying to say?

Yeah, I think those rallies will stop soon.

I'm in Southern California. I was at Vons stocking up and it was packed. Checker said it was really bad yesterday, too. That brought it home to me. I came home and just started bawling. My Dad is 80 and goes to City of Hope twice a month for immunotherapy treatment. My Mom is not dealing with it well.

That Trump bashing Obama is a molehill compared to the mountain of the entirety of the Democrat/media establishment bashing Trump.

Your pathetic denial of fact is pathetic.
