    I've haven't been to Scotland, yet.

    I'm from London, England, if I had to use cash in Scotland, would they refuse bank of England notes like Scottish notes do down here?
    Is it common, is it rare?

    In Scotland they accept all the English banknotes.

    But that does not work vice versa.
    Scottish banknotes are accepted in the English border region - further South you may have problems with them.
