“Abolition of this body would send an unintended message to the rest of the world. Oppressive groups may come to believe that the United States is not committed to the protection of religious liberty.” Indeed. But since Muslim states commit most of the violations of religious liberty, and the victims are mostly Christians, the shutdown of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) is consistent with the Obama Administration's clear determination to say and do nothing at all that Muslims might construe as offensive.

It may be more cost effective to let the UN do it, simply for that form of cooperation among the several States.

The UN put ME countries with horrible human rights records in charge of human rights. The UN is worse than useless.

Actually it looks like this commission keeps track of oppression of Christians.

If it wants taxpayer money, it should not be quite so Christian-centric.

And lets get the money to offset its cost by ending tax deductions for private jets for nonprofit religious organizations.

Lets see just how much the Religious Right BELIEVES in this Cause!

I agree. That type of foreign public policy was fine last millennium, now we know it is just too expensive to not involve a Union of States, bound together for that purpose.

Who cares if Islamo's are offended. We should start an agency specifically organized to offend Islamo's. Its too easy so a small staff is all that is required.

Are you trying to create a new office of public offender?

Shut it down, it's toothless. Unable to take any action, can only make recommendations, that obviously the U.S. Administration isn't listening to anyway.

...while at it. Withdraw from the U.N. and move the useless bundle of horse crap off American soil.

    grrrrrrrrrr

The Islamo Offender Office for Covert and Overt Operations to Expose Islamo Stupidity and Injustice, (IOOCOOEISI).

Kinda wordy, but hey, it makes it sound more impotant that way.

I see it as the closure of a worthless government agency, and that's a good thing.

Fact is that Christians are in many more cases the victims, and a large group at that. the amount of religions prosecution in Christian dominated nations ( maybe African ones more) is far less then the one dished out in the Islamic World, a quick look at a religious freedom map shows this.

We have had that department for quite some time.

It is called the "Defense Department", and on the behalf of our old companies it has dominated, repressed, driven out of their homes and killed "Islamos" throughout the Middle East by the millions.

Along with natives in South America and Africa.

Considering that 80 percent of the dead people in Iraq are related to insurgents I find that hard to believe ^^

In my opinion, we would be better off helping the developing world improve its standard of living, simply to be more cost competitive with the more developed world.

the standard of living in nations like Saudi Arabia and UAE are high, but religious apartheid remains a problem. Prosecution and wealth are not linked.

Why not help improve the standard of living of the rest of Arab League. Would there be as much Religious strife, with more secular States promoting and providing for their general welfare?

Um...if you're going to do that....how about ending tax deductions for private jets for ANYone....not 'just' for religious organizations. See how it works in the real world?

Quite an example of a made-up number!

The good old "the person is dead so they must have been an insurgent" statistics!

Particularly poignant because MOST of these "insurgents" are dead in THEIR OWN HOMES AND VILLAGES! And they are ALL Muslim.

But the USA, they don't harm any "religions", oh, no they never would!

If it weren't for "violations of human rights" there would be neither the pyramids or the white house.

Not a critique, just some perspective. Let's hope we can all be a little more loving to our fellow man.
