    Stopping the spread of deadly assault weapons
    Stay informed

    In January, Senator Feinstein will introduce a bill to stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devises.

    Feinstein to Introduce Updated Assault Weapons Bill in New Congress, December 17, 2012
    Feinstein Statement on Connecticut School Shooting, December 14, 2012

    Summary of 2013 legislation

    Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:

    Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
    120 specifically-named firearms
    Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
    Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
    Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
    Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
    Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
    Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
    Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
    Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
    Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
    Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
    Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
    Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
    Background check of owner and any transferee;
    Type and serial number of the firearm;
    Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
    Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
    Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

    Sure would like to know the specifics and the PDF doesn't say what guns would be banned either...very vague.
    120 specifically-named firearms???

    I suspect that they are going after rifles cut down to pistol size. Tec-9's and mini AR's/AK's.

    Well now you know why the people are out rushing to buy guns. My two M-1 Carbines would fall under those rules if enacted. So would my 9mil semi automatic hand gun. I'd have no problem giving up the bigger mags if the government were willing to buy them back from me so that I could buy more 10 round mags.

    I believe she packs or at least used to and has a concealed carry permit.

    Will she have to give up hers or will she have special permission as a member of the senate if this passes? Will congress once again be exempt for the rules applied to other subjects...I mean citizens?

    OH don't worry, govt officials will get their own set of laws, sort of how Obamacare is written up. YEP, certain higher-ups get an entirely different health plan from all us regular people. They might as well have their own set of gun laws too.

    That fat sack of sh- it Michael Moore had his bodyguard arrested in New York because his concealed carry permit was not valid in that jurisdiction. The antii gun hysteria will effect even liberal quislings like Moore but it will not touch our senators, who are above the so called law.

    That's what I figure will happen if this POS gets passed.

    Socialism is for the people, not the socialist.

    Zel, we are talking about the folks that exempted themselves from insider trading of stocks, stocks that their legislation would have a profound effect on (read that manipulation).

    I don't think this will pass... unless, the democrats want to lose seats; too many people own guns. Besides we have quite a few republican senators, etc.

    What about smart guns??? With background checks and all the other gun laws on the book, wouldn't this solve a lot of the problems??? This certainly have stopped the Sandy Hook killer as they were his mothers guns.

    hahaha... you watch too much tv. This is the real world, not a "James bond" world. Also, if the technology was there, iit wouldn't have stopped the Sandy Hook killer because there are too many "legacy" guns out there. He could have stole guns from somewhere else.

    It includes far too many non-assault type weapons and it will never pass.

    Unless on January 2 Dirty Harry amends the Senate rules to eliminate the filibuster, this is DOA.

    Even if he does amend out the filibuster, can he marshal enough votes to pass it? A number of Senators are up for election in 2014 and never underestimate the NRA's ability to get out their voters, especially when there has been an attempt to attenuate Second Amendment rights.

    Does anybody think it has a chance in the House?

    The storm has passed, and the opposition to gun confiscation has re-solidified.

    that's a shame. a .223 fired out of a 5inch barrel isn't what you'd call a high powered. but they look scary and that's what worries them.

    I agree, it includes to many to ever pass. Thank God we have the Second Amendment to protect our right to own guns or people like Pelosi would have us all disarmed

    If I am not there will be a turnover of Dems to Repubs in the next elections and the ban will be removed, far too many Dems and Indes actually believe in their right to bear arms.

    if it makes it out of committee, it will be pared down to manufacture specs on mags. limits on after-market mags and hopefully federal time for using a firearm (or any other article regulated in interstate commerce) to commit a crime.
