Not "should" but "could". A justification in the criminal law is an exculpation under the criminal law. The fact is that a killing occurred and there may be an ability to take civil action based on a number of bases of action. The same thing happened with the OJ Simpson case.

Criminals have guns nowadays. You wouldn't want to be 'hit first' by hot lead.

Here's a big heads up for all the children aspiring to be advanced to the level of Low Information Voter:

No matter how much an adult shoots off his mouth, other citizen is allowed to lay violent hands on his body. Hence, if some Stupid can be goaded into attacking a citizen, and the Stupid gets himself shot thereby, the IQ of the nation is raised.

The MAJOR FLAW in repealing SYG laws are many.

First off, it means no citizen on the street is save, he must run away.

Secondly, the trail lawyer bottom feeding parasitic maggots will start taking money from citizens doing nothing more than protecting themselves.

Third, when a turd like King Obama, Racist and Traitor, is opposed to such a law, after his expressed hatred for all forms of American freedom, then that law should be defended, even though all the professionally Stupid robots in the internet are suddenly making up imaginary scenarios against such eminently sensible laws. Being Stupids, of course, they won't be able to provide valid reasons they oppose such a sensible law, but they'll hang on to their Low Information Voter status by following their Messiah from Kenya.

More to the point, most of them know how to avoid implication, arrest, trial, and conviction. Remember, 50% of all homicides in the US are never solved. Anyone playing Paul Kersey on the real streets of the hood is going to find himself in a ceremonial urn on their mother's mantle, and nobody will have seen anything.

All you have is Z's side of the story. It my contention that the gun was drawn from the beginning, Z verbally assaults and confronts TM with the weapon and TM afraid he's going to be shot defends himself by trying to disarm Z , Z begins to lose the fight and murders TM.
PERIOD THE END ! It's as likely as anything Z told.

Nice fairy tale but there is zero proof to back that myth up. On the other hand there was a world renowned forensics expert that testified the forensics confirms George's account of events. But keep believing in myths if it helps you sleep at night.

Traditional self-defense laws don't give the advantage to the criminal; they just make it harder to murder somebody and get away with it. SYG laws are changing an ancient system that isn't broken.

    No, it does not.

Common sense and common legal principles say a citizen has the right and freedom to walk down the sidewalk. Any legislation claiming that citizen must run away from an attacker violates the common sense freedom of the citizen to move about his own city.

Nobody has to "run away" when attacked, that's NEVER been the case, not at any time in human history, and it's nonsensical on the face of it, leading, naturally, to people being trapped in their homes while the criminals have the run of the streets.

If thugs don't wish to be shot dead in the streets, they have the option of leaving other people alone. By attacking a citizen, they surrender "due process" since that legal procedure is restricted to GOVERNMENT, not citizens. The "due process" thugs can expect to receive from citizens is defined in the SYG law....their victim can shoot them, and their victim can kill them. Ergo, "due process", such as it is, is followed.

Who in their right mind would miss dead thug trash like Trayvon Martin, anyway?

Maybe it won't it won't be a thug being followed and confronted next time maybe it'll be you Mayor Snorkum. Maybe they'll blow you away, hit themselves in the face a couple of times and tell the cops you attacked him and he was in fear of his life, so he had to stand his ground. The police won't even arrest the guy!!! Oh, well that's how SYG works, Great law if you want to get away with murder.

Only if the media attention or money made it possible for a better lawyer to take the case than your average American could afford. The high profile cases like this and Casey Anthony would have been far different verdicts with a court appointed or even a average attorney. Money or fame give you more rights and protections than the average citizen is given. That is what's wrong with the American justice system she is not blinded when it comes to money.

I do not see SYG as the problem. It was not what caused Zimmerman to get off, from my understanding of the law. It was more of a good defense lawyer and a stupid state attorney.

There is no evidence to support you that that is what happened.
There is plenty of evidence that supports Zimmerman's story.

Look, I don't need, and will not accept the mumbo jumbo.

There is no way that a homicide ruled (criminally) justifiable should be able to be dragged into a subsequent court to try to get it ruled (civilly) wrongful.

Cause it proves he was attacked by a thug who intended to do him harm and would have continued except that he was shot.

The problem with the SYG laws is that IT COULD HAPPEN THAT WAY!!

And a cop could plant weed on a suspect so it should be illegal for a cop to arrest someone for possession.
    Your logic sucks.

So you just made up your own story based on nothing then?

Any law that requires the non-aggressor to run away gives the advantage to the criminal by default.

There is no problem. If you provoked them with intent to kill, it would be murder if premeditation could be proved.

In fact, you could just unexpectedly cut someone's throat and run away, potentially leaving no witnesses, so I fail to see your point about anything.

Why is this so hard for people to understand. The SYG laws can be manipulated to get away with murder. The person supposedly Standing Their Ground can actually be the aggressor by provoking their potential victim into a confrontation, kill them , and then claim
they were in fear for their lives. The incidents of supposed Stand Your Ground killings in Florida have increased exponentially since this law went into effect. Every bar fight that escalates into someone getting killed becomes a SYG claim/

Not really, not anywhere near like how you think.

Try this line of reasoning for a moment. Imagine there was no gun and Zimmerman had bashed Trayvon's head in with a rock he had managed to grasp lying nearby. If that had been the case, what change in SYG laws would you like to see?

What I think you do not understand is that there are already other laws that can be used to prosecute a person. Self defense is not a blanket defense. If the person who killed in self defense is to blame, he can still be convicted for manslaughter or reckless endangerment. If his actions demonstrate he was trying to cause trouble, and there was some ulterior motive to kill, it can be interpreted as premeditation, and it is enough to convict of murder in some cases.

Nonsense. prior to SYG many American cities were owned by the thugs, with the citizens forced to stay home in hiding.

You have a problem with street thugs being afraid of citizens?

they're all unhappy, you see, because they've been told to be unhappy.

Asking them to use reason is silly. It's like asking a monkey to use calculus. They're trained to perform, not think. They're not capable of thought.

"You have a problem with street thugs being afraid of citizens?"

    Taxcutter says:
I don't. Thugs SHOULD be afraid of the wrath of the people.

Is ol' Don a spokesman for thugs?
