OK, so this is WY, but still, they seem to be inserting a bit of good old common sense into something that the federal brain trust has no business trying to dictate with a iron fist. I mean, if kids aren't eating the tasteless crap, and the adults are admitting they wouldn't either, what's the frikkin rational? Kids need to eat, and just like adults, they'll eat what they enjoy eating and not eat what they don't. So, unless Mrs dancing with the turnips thinks it better kids go hungry that eat her tasteless crap, maybe she should get the heck out the school kitchen & rethink her ill-conceived dictate.

Not in my area where we have some of the best public schools in the country.........a very White affluent demographic, with some East Asians mixed in. Everyone actually shows up prepared to learn. Now in the Southern part of the county which is almost 100 percent black the schools are nothing more than a glorified child care center with free breakfasts and lunches.......free school supplies which are seldom used and constant violence

In regards to meals, in public schools, yes, they should serve healthy food.

Not at all, we ate a balanced diet that included plenty of fruits and vegetables.

 

Of course, it's not about healthy foods. It's about doing as your told. We've all seen the pictures of the lunches that liberals define as healthy. If they were served in prisons there would be federal lawsuits but since they're served in schools, on orders of the king, it's okay.

How does serving healthy foods turn into a cracker and cheese, w/ a celery stick? The schools (some of them) took it to absurd level of stupidity to prove a point, as with everything political. Also Mrs. Obama only supported the idea/concept of feeding children healthy meals, she didn't make the law or dictate menus that met the daily requirements. That is more political nonsense.

In December 1953, the Journal of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation publishes an article, "Muscular Fitness and Health," coauthored by Dr. Hans Kraus and Bonnie Prudden that sounded an alarm about the poor state of youth fitness in America. Following the President's Conference on Fitness of American Youth (held at U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD) in June 1956, President Eisenhower (a republican) creates the President's Council on Youth Fitness.

President Kennedy changes the name to the President's Council on Physical Fitness to address all age groups and amended the Executive Order by one objective - enlisting the aid of citizens, civic groups, etc.

During his Presidency, President Johnson changes the name to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports to encourage lasting fitness gains through sports and games and added five objectives to the Executive Order. The Council was placed administratively under Department of Health, Education, & Welfare.

The second national fitness survey of 10- to 17- year-olds takes place in 1965. The following year, based on the survey results, the President establishes the Presidential Physical Fitness Award for exceptional achievement by 10- to 17-year-old boys and girls.

The Council supervised the National Youth Sports Program for disadvantaged youth.

Under the Nixon administration (another republican), the Council expanded the Presidential Physical Fitness Awards to include recreation departments and groups, such as boys and girls clubs. The Presidential Sports Award was established in 1972 to motivate Americans to participate regularly in fitness/sports activity.

Under Ford (another republican) the Executive Order was amended with two additional objectives in 1976 to charge the Council with informing the general public of the importance of exercise, and assisting business and industry in establishing sound physical fitness programs. In 1975, the third national youth fitness survey takes place and results did not show as much improvement as those of 1965.

A year later in 1976, the Presidential Sports Award was available in 43 categories.

In fact under every president to follow republican or democrat the program expanded. In fact under George W. (yes another republican) the program expanded more than ever before including creating websites etc... Even more than what Obama did to it when he took office. On June 23, 2010, the White House announces a new Presidential Executive Order changing the Council's name to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, expanding the mission of the Council to include nutrition, but he is the (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*).

You all sound like a bunch of manipulated idiots, if you are arguing that this is something new or that the first lady created such a law/guidelines for school lunches, and even more ignorant if you actually believe she is responsible for selecting menus at the local level in the public school systems.

 

The food they were serving before was fine. There was no need to institute this program. In fact this program actually hurt kids because then the kids were either not eating enough or they were getting food from elsewhere costing them more money.

Actually there were kids that didn't eat and they were tired throughout the day. They aren't starving, they get breakfast and eat dinner, but skipped lunch in many cases.

Either way, when you have kids eating before this program and then have issues after the program, common sense says the program isn't working.

Now please tell me why the menu they had before needed to be changed by government interference?

 

I suppose if they were hungry they should have eaten then, correct? Or do you expect the portly youth of today to be fed whatever they want, whenever they want?
