In a scathing ruling the 7th Circuit Appellate Court has struck down SSM bans in that district: http://www.washingtonblade.com/2014/09/04/7th-circuit-rules-marriage-bans-wisconsin-indiana: Judge Richard Posner's majority ruling (it was, in fact, unanimous) pulls no punches: "Our pair of cases is rich in detail but ultimately straightforward to decide,” Posner writes. “The challenged laws discriminate against a minority defined by an immutable characteristic, and the only rationale that the states put forth with any conviction — that same-sex couples and their children don’t need marriage because same-sex couples can’t produce children, intended or unintended— is so full of holes that it cannot be taken seriously." Despite some recent minor setbacks, I see this as a huge victory for proponents of marriage equality and a ruling which will have reference and ramifications for more and more cases as they wend their way to the USSC.
