The Japanese continue to hunt whales. They will hunt down the last whale, kill it, and eat it.

I worked for a Japanese company for 10 years in the '90s.

I learned a great deal, and my conclusion:
The Japanese decided that since we defeated them in WWII, they should learn from us - so they copied the US - but the US as it was just around 1950, and they froze it there.
What was the US like in 1950?
    Prejudiced
    Ecology was an unknown word
We polluted some streams so badly that they could (and did) catch fire
We had driven Bison (once in the millions) to the verge of extinction

C'mon, Japan. You can evolve - look at the US as we are now.

333 whale carcasses and they claim that's "research".

It should be up to people like you to stop them.

Buy a boat and ram all the whaling vessels you can find.

Best to locate the Jap Whaling Ships while they are still in their harbors and sink them there.

    Don't just talk---act!

Not quite as at least they eat the whole of the whale. I'm in two minds of criticizing whale hunters as is it really any different from eating any animal. I am vegetarian for animal welfare issues and know there is just as much cruelty in the factory farms and slaughter houses. I am strongly against hunters who kill for fun or killing an animal and taking 0.2% of it for a 'delicacy' or curing libido problems

The similarity is that we are talking about driving species to extinction.
The last do-do bird may have been eaten, also, but they are still extinct.
Killing endangered species is despicable. You are right in that the killing of elephants and lions is even MORE despicable than the killing of whales, but it isn't much of a distinction.

I have a craving for a whale dinner tonight.

When I was in Norway I had some whale blubber. It's kinda tasted like that salt spork that is found in a can of pork and beans. Mmm...mmm good.

I had a good laugh. It appears that you haven't been to Japan for a long time. Heaven's forbid they look at the USA. Their cities are at least 10 times cleaner than the US cities, their food is much better, they turned half of the country into environmentally friendly areas-the whole Hokkaido is almost like one big national park...If you want to learn about the ecology, you'd better visit Japan. The only drawback is that Japan is very unlucky with earthquakes.

Reading the article...it doesnt sound like a species endangerment issue, but more of "you have no right to murder whales" being the issue. I could never eat whale...but Japanese do like it. I do like beef, don't mind if we have to cull wolves and bears now and then. We have a right to kill animals.

Actually, that is a part they had themselves.

From what I read, national religion of japanese - Shinto - posesses ideas of japan superiority and may be one of reasons for distrust towards foreigners, along with history of painful collusions with foreign nations.

Must be 40 years ago now that Japanese floating canneries depleted the Persian Gulf of shrimp.

What makes me angry enough to send money to Greenpeace about all of this is that it is NOT NECESSARY!!

    Ahem.

Please, issue that voiced there, has nothing to do with USA, or the Democrats-Republicans civil dispute. Let's talk about issue alone, in that case - about japanese hunting whales. How that issue might be helped, do you think?

And what about 'money' and 'Greenpeace' - how, exactly, they can affect that issue?

Greenpeace campaigns against whaling- even for "research" . They run intercepting ships in the whale fishing season.

Why don't they build whale farms, if they're so crazy about eating them? Impossible, I suppose.

And what these ships do? They cannot attack the japanese whalers, I assume. Is whale hunting illegal? If so, why Greenpeace - and not japanese, or corean, or chinese navy subjugate the poachers? If it is legal - what can Greenpeace ships do, then?

They get between the whales and the Japanese whalers. They can't actually touch the Japanese as that would be piracy. This is in the southern ocean. Because the Australian Government is gutless, nothing is being done to protect the whales during a whaling moratorium. The international whaling commission isn't much help either.

Then, basically, the work of comission must be invigorated, moratorium reworked and Japan persuaded to join it.

In practice. Nobody says it is going to be easy - but it is going to be much more effective, than be hiring legion of people on boats, blocking the whalers physically.

There is a right wing dominated government in Australia at present. It has no interest in the environment, alternative energy production, reducing pollution and replacing coal as an energy source. It concentrates on tax reduction for big business, not upsetting big trading partners, border protection (reducing Muslim refugees) and looking after their big business cronies.
Whales don't get a look in.

You can start by gathering a petition, enlightening masses about issue, and presenting them scientific researches, that show that certain species of whales are getting endangered by whale hunting.Your government is democratic, and should serve concerns and interests of people that elected it, therefore you have right to inform them about your concerns. Even if they were not ones who you voted for, you still are a citizen of country and they still are there to be representing and serving your interests.
