Just listened to the press conference of the Sheriff who is investigated triple murders in Ocala Florida. He noted that the one thing that wasn't to blame was the gun, noting that the suspects (juveniles) were already breaking several laws by having one or more guns. Two have been arrested, one is on the loose. Two of the victims are teenage white girls. The third victim is not currently identified.

If only criminals would ask for ID when they sell guns to kids.

LOL, the Sheriff hinted that the gun was stolen during a burglary, perhaps out of a car but I didn't catch his entire press conference

Why is that so funny? There is a gun in every other car, and almost 400 000 are stolen every year (one every 90 seconds).

I was born and raised in Ocala but I left when I was 16 and I've only been back once about 15 years ago.

I probably would not even recognize the place now. My childhood home had been sold and the three and a half acres had been sold to and now had houses on it. It was a sad thing to see.

It's the Thoroughbred capital of the nation outside of Kentucky. Horse farms and rolling hills. A beautiful place but I'm sure it's no longer the same.

We have two cars in my driveway and there is not a gun in either one of them. My landlord next door also has two cars and there's also not a gun in either one of those....

Well, 80% my neighbors have guns so I guess it balances it out. Besides, when I said 'every other car', I merely meant that lot of cars have guns in them, and its one of the reasons people break into cars (there is a good chance they'll find a gun).

I still don't see any reference to any ID.

Here is a strong hint: Many of those guns that are reported stolen are just that: only reported stolen not actually stolen.

And many that are stolen are not reported. Your point?

You'll need to use facts and bridge the gaps with reason.

    https://dash.harvard.edu/bitstream/handle/1/32630640/5385318.pdf

How do you think you would avoid scrutiny if you straw purchased for someone, which is illegal?
Think it through, what actions might you take? What might your 'story' be? Could it be "O I lost that in a boating accident" or "O I've been looking for that, thought I'd misplaced it. Must have been stolen"?
Do you find that a likely response or would someone simply immediately fess up to a felony?

    Does "many" really mean anything?

I feel you. I am actually a devotee of the David sling and have been practicing with one for close to 10 years now.

I can throw a 3 to 4 oz Rock which is roughly the size of a chicken's egg at roughly 100 mph and a man size Target at 100 ft and get fairly close if not hit it a pretty decent amount of the time.

When you first begin practicing with the sling you realize that this rock can be deadly force.

The responsible thing to do is go out in an open area by yourself and practice because once you let go of the release string that rock is going to go where it's going to go and no amount of wishing can make it stop.

So you realize there are times and places when you should not use a sling even when you are tempted to do so.

But I do encourage everyone who has good common sense to practice with a sling.

It has bullet-like Force when it hits and there is no law saying you can't have a piece of string and you can't not pick up whatever will fit in the pouch and will make a bullet..... Anything in the 2 to 4 oz range that is aerodynamic and dense, will suffice.

Spark plugs and sockets and wheel weights and golf balls and rocks.

Let's see them try to ban that.

But naturally if someone without Good Sense gets a hold of a sling what's the first thing they're going to want to do with it? See what kind of property they can damage with it.

Fortunately it takes a bit of practice and discipline so most people that would be so maliciously minded don't have the gumption to stick with it and practice long enough to develop any degree of speed or accuracy

I think you may have missed the point FB.
The video was using the "rock" from historical times as opposed to what guns are in current ones.

I understood it well. I was drawing a parallel to the use of a sling in the hands of someone who has good sense versus someone who would take it and use it for vandalism or try to harm others.

The very same thing people can do with guns to this very day

Can a guy with a sling hit a target at 600 yards like I can with an M1A?

You might be surprised to learn the world record sling distance is just north of 450 yards.

I consider myself a fairly practiced amateur and I can get every bit of 150 yards on a good day.

Can you throw a rock 30 yards with much accuracy?

Why would I possibly want to throw a rock when I have an M1A? That's like asking if I'd rather swim to London or fly.

You might not always have your gun handy. I like guns to but a sling can go anywhere without drawing attention.... don't discount the value of that.
