I always like a fireworks display, however, when fireworks are sold in the stores, Emergency Rooms admit children as well as adults with injuries and eyesight loss being the worst. Sometimes fireworks have a short fuse on them and the person doing the lighting in a matter of seconds will have his life altered. C.J. Wilson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost two fingers from a fireworks accident.. The famous comedian, Harold Lloyd, lost a finger from playing with fireworks. I'm sure there are numerous more cases of people who have suffered injuries from fireworks. Sadly, there are some kids who will throw fireworks at some cars causing accidents. Fires occur because of someone playing with fireworks.

So, do you think there should be a Federal ban on fireworks and leave fireworks to the professionals? What is your opinion? I think there should be a Federal ban on fireworks because of all the injuries and fires caused by them.

    No, no ban on fireworks.

Why do people think everything is a federal issue? Where in the Constitution does the federal government have the power to ban fireworks?

The problem in the accidents above is people not following directions. Fireworks have very specific directions in how to use. I've never known anybody who used fireworks according to the direction to get hurt. I have seen minor fireworks injuries (and have even had a few), but they were due to not following the printed directions on the label.

Kitchen matches and carving knives result in more fires and lost fingers. *shrug*

I'll just say this, if we ever do ban fireworks, I promise to obey the law 100%, just like I do with marijuana in states where it's illegal.

No, i am tired of the creeping crud of the collectivist nanny state. This country was supposed to the the home of the brave and land of the free-not the asylum of people unable to grow up and act responsibly.

many people think if a law is needed, that alone makes it constitutional for congress to pass such a law

I wish they could bring back those large firecrackers (M80s I think you call them?)

All these regulations over the years have taken all the fun out of fireworks.
I realize there were a lot of accidents... but risk is really part of life, isn't it? The vast majority of the time the accident happened to the person using the product, and usually as a result of their own careless behavior.
Are we going to ban guns because people have occasionally had terrible accidents and injured themselves?

I also realize there are highly populated city regions where there is good reason to ban the sale/use of aerial fireworks. I mean where there is really no safe place one could light them without them being likely to fly into onto someone's home or car. Too bad. As people live in closer and closer proximity to one another they have to give up more of their freedoms.

So now people in rural regions are going to have to make compromises just so those fireworks do not end up causing problems in more urban regions. This is basically the same type of issue in the gun control debate, for those of you who may not have noticed.

Depends on how many innocent people are hurt by idiots who are not careful with their toys. As long as you hurt yourself I don't care.
I have had quite a few close calls with rockets and bombs fired by other people and that probably makes me lean towards making it illegal for regular people.
Let the local authorities set up a fireworks show under strict control.

The world is such a scary place, isn't it? People following you around shooting rockets and throwing bombs at you. There oughta be a law.

Why does everything have to be a federal case? No one even questions anymore that the federal government has power over everyone on anything and everything.

Nail filings and hair clippings lodge permanently in people's lungs. Nail files and hair clippers should be outlawed by the federal government.

Indeed. I do not want this to happen to me because some idiot can't control his fireworks while I'm out on new year

How about criminally charge people who hurt others with fireworks, and leave the rest of us alone.

What is it with you control freaks? First, show me the Constitutional Authority for the Feds to ban fireworks. (Before you answer, remember it required a Constitutional Amendment to ban booze....) Secondly, as a purportedly free people, do we not enjoy the right to voluntarily take on risks? You don't want to use personal fireworks, be my guest, but who are you to make that decision for me??

I can't read what it says because it is not in English. Are you claiming that some "drunk idiot" did that to someone else's hand? How?
