Evidently your goal is to graduate from high school and get into college. If so, don't question it, don't make it angry at you. Swallow your political pride in school and graduate. >>>MOD EDIT: INSULT<<<. If you make it mad, it'll take revenge on your grades. For the duration, pretend you're a Democrat and it'll give you good marks so you can be assured of graduation. But the ultimate ploy, if you're a bit of an actor and can swing it, is to pretend that it persuaded you to become a Democrat. And the same for college too, but even more so. >>>MOD EDIT: INSULT<<< Pretend you're a liberal. But what am I saying? Maybe you are a liberal Democrat?
Some individuals within the gop use the bible to justify laws they create - and? some individuals in both parties use the bible to justify laws they support, such as welfare laws. But nothing in such laws are exclusively biblical, nor are official party stances stated as such. But, you're getting off topic with that anyways - I'll assume that means that you just concede the points I made prior, since you didn't actually respond to them but shifted the subject.
I see what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure if I got the momentum running or made it seem innocent that I could get her to teach both sides.
Oh she'll be peeved off especially if I present a different version of things but she welcomes debate. I don't want it to be a debate, I just want her to teach us. - - - Updated - - - Thanks. It means a lot.
yea buddy with caution, the intellectual elites are just as if not more arrogant with power as the business elites. you have to play to their will and patronise them, or they will come after you unfortunately.
I know I know. But it doesn't feel right. I should be able to say to a teacher's face "You're indoctrinating us and you're not teaching us a thing." The system is just messed up.
From your OP you said she doesn't tell you the bad things about Obamacare. So where did you learn about the things you know she is not teaching you?
PF, Daily show, Colbert Report, I get notifications on Facebook. What I hear in school etc. It's pretty informal. It's basically what I just happen to see and hear where I go.
So a comedy channel and Facebook say something and you believe it but your challenge your government teacher because you don't agree with her.
This could be a major life lesson and reality check. Are you willing to risk antagonising someone while they have the power to affect your future career?
I find it amusing folks who decrie unfairness of authority on a daily basis here would opine you need to bend over for it now. Terrible analogy perhaps but what would Rosa Parks do? My suggestion would be to read Unifiers post again and begin softly as you suggested. Teachers are fairly fragile creatures, you'll know how far you can go after the first attempt.
Kranes56, First you have to determine her tolerance level and temper. If you think she's flexible enough to take criticism, experiment with it. However, if you start to see your grade suffer, give up on the quixotic crusade.
The art to being successful in this world is to form opinions when you don't know anything and hope the facts eventually fit your opinions. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
High School, correct? I'm concerned about your grade. She has a specific curriculum to follow. If she grades you outside of the curriculum yet grades you on her viewpoint that would not be good. Set up a meeting with her where you present your proposal. You don't want to embarrass her in front of the class by asking her to consider your proposal.
You would need to be more diplomatic! "I believe"or "it appears" rather than the accusing phrase "You're". "You're not teaching us a thing" should be along the lines of "I'm (or 'we' if other students are thinking the same thing) not learning the whole picture." Follow up with specific examples.
Find what her limits and what sets her off. Once you find that out, it will be a lot easier to talk to her, as you will know what her limits are, even if you disagree with her.
That's very good that you feel that way. Seriously, if you want to feel out the waters, "I heard that ObamaCare will increase health care costs" is a much better opening than that. And the teacher will either allow that to be discussed, or, depending on their lesson plan, the teacher may change the topic, or open it up to some exploration. But be prepared, you may be asked "how will it increase health care costs?" and you can't answer you won't score points. And if the wants the class to go in a different direction, it's her class, be respectful.
I don't care about my grade. If it gets to the point where I'm close to failing I'll stop but I don't want her to keep doing this. But it would be a good idea to talk to her after class as well. I'll think about it. - - - Updated - - - I get that but at the same time I want her to be on the defensive. If I have more "ammunition" against her, it should work in my favor. But it also depends on a lot of things as well.
I would be careful with teachers that try really too hard to push their own political or religious views, sometimes they discriminate against those with differing views, hopefully that is not the case here, you almost have to be there in the room to know .
