Too late for the poll, but yes we should change how we elect presidents. However, direct popular vote is not the way to go; we need preferential voting. Not only that, but we need proportional representation for our congress. I wrote about this in more detail in my blog.
You've got 2 choices when it comes to elections... 1) mob rule 2) tyranny of the minority We currently opt for 2 via the Electoral College by inflating rural votes while deflating urban ones. In our current system, some people get more voting power than others.
I'm not sure if that would be a good system or not. Right now I'm thinking no. Our electoral system is corrupt anyways. Something has to change it eventually. I use the last election as my example. The state of Pennsylvania (where I lived at the time) overwhelmingly voted for McCain...but Philadelphia and Pittsburgh voted for Obama.....so Obama won and got the electoral votes. My vote essentially counted for nothing. The entire state was dictated by two large, and popular cities, that did not represent the interests of the entire state of Pennsylvania. Sad.
The president doesn't have as much power as the media makes you think. He doesn't have the power to seem like a dictator.
+1 Googling the net worth of the big banking families will show some estimates of over $100 Trillion for some of the families. Of course when you get to print the money, you can buy whatever you wish, and control the rest.
