Did you actually fully read the article that you cited? You are citing the first paragraph. But if you read a little lower to the fifth paragraph, it reads:

Often taking on extra work after their tasks for the day had been completed, enslaved artisans could possibly make money while hired out. People such as farriers, carpenters, and seamstresses were the best compensated for their skilled labor. Many enslaved people regularly hired out were able to make enough off these earnings to purchase their own freedom and later the rest of their family. However, these wages could also easily be confiscated by their hirer or enslaver, so the prospects of freedom were still slim. A prominent example of an enslaved person purchasing their freedom through the hiring out system in St. Louis is that of Elizabeth Keckley, who worked as an enslaved seamstress and became popular among the women of St. Louis’s aristocracy due to her superb needlework. Keckley’s skill proved so popular that she was able to purchase her own freedom, and later that of her son, from her earnings making dresses in 1855. Eventually, Keckley’s work became so well known that Mary Todd Lincoln brought her to the White House to be the First Lady’s personal dressmaker.

This contradicts your absolute statement that slaves were never compensated for the skills that they acquired, which is such a dumbfoundingly idiotic, ignorant statement.

(Thanks for the citation, by the way. I'll bookmark it for the future.)

You have been proven wrong multiple times on this thread about this topic. Now you've been proven wrong by your own citation. At this point, if you continue to maintain that slaves were never compensated for their work after being proven incorrect, you are lying and thus engaging in disinformation.

As I stated, some slaves slaves were able to hire themselves out. If they had a useful skill that was marketable they would pay their master a monthly fee and they would continue to hire themselves out after they had earned the monthly payment providing them with profits. In some instances they could then buy their freedom. This is well documented so I’m not sure why you’re denying it. It’s not hard to verify.

This is great! I Iove when people like @Sirius Black provided citations that prove themselves wrong.

I love Williamsburg Virginia. Woke up early one morning and went to a "building site" just outside the reconstructed town. It is mostly college students/professors that dress in period and explain things to the tourists. I saw them make a brick kiln (very interesting as I am a mason) . Got to experience a two man saw, but the neatest thing was, I got an education from a man who happened to be black, dressed in period. He explained that the majority of houses built in Colonial Williamsburg were done "offsite". They were built, taken down, then rebuilt in town. Reason being, they didn't want slaves, Irish, Welsh, and low esteemed English in town doing work for any length of time. He asked me my own ancestry (Irish and Scotch) and told me I would be working out of town with the slaves. Thought this was interesting as many slaves were excellent craftsmen!

YOU claimed Florida teachers were "mandated to assert that slaves derived life skill benefits from their enslavement." There is no such mandate.
And for one William Ellison, former slave, cotton gin maker AND BLACKSMITH became one of the largest black slave owners with 68 slaves.

You are misunderstanding the transaction. The slaves owner would rent the slave out to another and that other might well pay the slave a bonus for a job well done. Other arrangements were possible as well.

That's one racist claim. It's astounding that anyone would claim that black slaves were too stupid to be skilled labor.

    So to recap:

    1. Some slaves were blacksmiths as was repeatedly documented in this thread.

    2. Many Democrat-run states have passed laws to allow abortion until the moment of birth.

    3. Wanting people who disagree with you locked up and the key thrown away (especially when you're factually wrong about everything you've claimed) is a very fascist ideology.
