Sounds good... waaaaay too much trouble.

Pickled asparagus gets a touch of spice from jalapenos and is flavored with garlic, onions, and dill.
    Prep Time: 30 minutes
    Cook Time: 30 minutes
    Total Time: 60 minutes

    Ingredients:

5 pint jars, washed and sterilized
10 pounds fresh asparagus, washed, cleaned and cut into 4-3/4-inch spears
    2 cups white vinegar
    2-1/2 cups water
    2 teaspoons mustard seed
1 Tablespoon pickling spice, placed in a gauze bag
    2 Tablespoons canning (pickling) salt

OK,now here's the main question.Do you eat it.?I would have no
problem giving it a try because I'm an asparagus guy.Even though I
near choked to death on the stuff as a Kid.But typical fellars are kinda agin
stuff like that. And woman like to chip away at carrot sticks.
Pickled veggies are good.My Kroger has a nice Gourmet Olive bar
with pickled carrots and cauliflower.Spiced Pinto Beans and really good
halves of sun-dried tomatoes in Olive oil.Artichokes and little feta cubes
and marinated mushrooms { never get } and about 8 varities of Greek
Olives.W/o being too crude that type stuff keeps ya regular.I read years
ago that a Mediterrean diet like that keeps ya healthy and living longer.
Just look at a Greek Sailor or Italian Fisherman. That pretty stout.

I like that asparagus recipe but hesitate to go to all trouble of buying
all those ingredients.I think maybe half could be downplayed. But good stuff
    does reguire often numerous ingredients.
Now,where are you gonna hide the Picked Eggs Jar.

Im also am an asparagas guy. This is a great app or snack ,I make them all the time.

Blanche some stalks of asparagas in salted water, until al dente. Take out,dry off and refrigerate till chilled. Then you'll need cream cheese ,a deli cheese and a cold cut. These combinations are endless. Whatever you like really. Generally I use chive and onion cream cheese, swiss cheese and a nice honey ham.

Take slice of cheese, smear one end of slice w/ cream cheese and wrap around asparagas stalk beginning with smeared end. The cream cheese will adhere the slice to the stalk. Then wrap a piece of ham around the whole thing. The meat will also keep the rollup secure. Simple but with the variety of meats an cheeses a typical deli sells the depths of flavor can get complex. Its a weird little tidbit that always catches folks by surprise.

Ill be gone until next week. Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve, y'all! Thx for the greetings and the great asparagus ideas, Mr. R! I LOVED the pickled asparagus, but after seeing how much trouble it is... might go with yours and save the more complex version until I'm really bored!!

Tried to hit the Honey Baked Ham store today to pick up the ham I'd reserved online. After standing in line for over an hr and barely moving (ONE clerk)... I left, went to Albertson's and saved myself thirty bucks on a Hormel Cure 81 ham. Whatta mob out there!! Traffic was so bad, it took 15 min to get thru a red light!!

No more outtings for me before Christmas. I've got everything I need and I ain't leaving the house! I feel for ya, OT... it's 40 and overcast here and it's colder'n a well-digger's butt out there. Brrrrrrrrr! [IMG]

The problemo is that Man is a somewhat rational animal.
And around Holiday { festive } times maybe not so much.We are
trained from Youth to expect Santa and We'd Better Watch Out,
We'd Better Not cry { Gee never stopped any Relative of mine from
whining } and You'd better eat that Broccoli.Even the Broc with melted
mozarella cheese and nice toasted bread crumbs with hints of
    herbs,spices and butter stock.
Like take today, for example.I had a hankerin fir Mushroom balls. The kind
of homemade ones I first tasted at a special Seafood restaurant down the
pike about a half hour from our Summer home in Ohio.
The place was McGarvey's.Man,them mushroom balls were to ... Die for.
Or at least good fixin enough until the Lobster bibs were tied into place.

That a Girl.Today was a mob at my Krogers.I kinda thought it might not be
too bad. But,the parking lot was full. It's never full.Well hardly ever.
I had to get some stuff { shopping as a Batch } and I've been getting
    Ham pretty easy all year.Excellent spiral sliced stuff { Hoffman's }
at the Gourmet Deli. They didn't carry too much the last couple months
on account Honey Baked Ham has set up a little stand w/standing refrig
near the Meats.Seemed like it wasn't much a draw. There is a Honey Baked Ham
    across town.
So Today, when I finally parked me car,and made my way as usual I
didn't like the looks of the Hoffman's spiral ham.It was small and about
2/3rd gone.So I said,I'm goin over to where they occassionally have their
Honey Baked Stand.I mean, like what better time.
Yup,the Honey Baked stand was in full force and had about
4-5 helpers with honey baked santa hats on.I watched first.I still wasn't
gonna buy a half ham.I quickly asserted meself while a shopper was
contemplating the sales pitch and view of what a Ham looks like unwrapped.
Wrapped in thick golden tin foil I wanted to know the smallest they had.
They were showing a Ham that was too big.I figured a half ham.
I asked about smaller hams and this guy seemed vacant.I asked another
way and got the same response. As if they act dumb about requests of
the size of a Honey Baked.I dint wanna have to blurb out, " Ok,show me the
smallest ham you have for sale Plaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze ".
    Turns out a Quarter.Yes,I want a quarter.So as fast as Santa's helper,
    this Guy who dint look dumb { besides his Honey Baked Santa's helper hat }
Picked one from inside the refrigerated glass holding pen and put with care in
a nice small gift bag with handles along with a Honey Baked flier.
I dreaded to look at the price,$34 bucks and change.Shoot.I wanted to spend about half that.So I figured instead of having a nice small sandwich
somewhere I'd fix one with the nice bread I bought.I just looked
at the price per lb. it said $4.41 per pound. That can't be right.
That's a good price but I don't know how much bone there is.
I wonder If I should Give Princess, the little Rat Terrier next door the
bone. She never goes inside.I get so mad about that I'd like to take that
Ham and stuff it up those neighbors of mine's ... well orifice. To be
Nice about it.'Tis the Season an All.
And to all a Good Ham bug.

LOL, guess I shouldn't have cut off the end of the it, huh? Didn't even get to the part about the jalapeno and I wouldn't have a clue how to put all that stuff together!

Nevermind the asparagus. I'll save that for Easter. :sun:

Loved the ham story, Foolie. During the hour I stood in line reading the walls at a Honey Baked store today, learned it's a family-owned company started in 1957. The Great American Dream... livin high on the hog!!!

Good stuff. You must make soup with that hambone. Then you can give it to your poor lil neighbordog. :(

Merry Christmas, ya ole grump. Good thing your bark's worse than your bite.

Can't even imagine. It's like a guy told me when I posted the demographics of my zip code (13% white)... you need to move, darlin!

LOL, to each his own. It'd be a dull ole world if we all liked the same thing!

Got a wonderful Christmas letter from my long-time friend in Nova Scotia today... and she talked about her sister & partner buying a condo in Florida to escape from Nov-May. But said she loves the winter. It's her time to hibernate and regroup. Described how she peers out the window every morning to be reminded there's absolutely no reason to go outside.

She painted a pretty picture, but I think I'll pass on months of snow. We might get snow flurries Christmas morning! But back up to 60 by Tues. My kinda winter. ;)

Have a Very Merry Christmas, you and yours.Right now am watching a
really compelling - Rocky - type move just out this week - Warrior -.
Nick Nolte has a role as a washed-up Father with 2 very strong-willed sons
who are excellent fighters. The movie is about Ultimate Fighting with
a Fight for Family,Fight for Country theme.
I think it would make a real crowd pleaser in any living room this Holiday.
    Especially the Fellars.

Morning sleepy heads. Wakey, wakey. Time to be up and about. So here it is Christmas eve. Now remember kiddies, if you don't go to bed and go to sleep tonight santa won't come and visit you. And we all know what that means now don't we? No presents under the tree. So I want all of you young at heart folks out there to scarf down a good breakfast and have a great day and get your hind ends in bed tonight.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. And may visions of sugar plums dance in your heads. Here are my sugar plums.

    Good morning on Christmas eve.
    What wonderful stories.
I'll keep the asparagus recipe. We have plenty of asparagus in the garden, so I will surely try it out.

It looks like everybody is still out trying to find that special gift on the last day to get anything. See how you are. Me I did all of my shopping the last week of November and had all of my xmas cards made out and mailed the first week of december. I learned to do that a long time ago. :) :-D :)

I'm with OT... get that shopping done early! I just came back from the Dollar Store with two more stockings full o'treats for two little girls who're dropping by this afternoon. So much more fun to buy for kids than grown-ups!

No snow in Big D, but it's bone-chilling cold! 41 and light rain. If anybody gets gmc on cable... they're running a fireplace w/Christmas music. Gmc's Yule Log. Check it out! Lovin it!!

Add this vision... and Christmas has officially arrived.
