... and take it with me while fishing. Damned boat turned over, and into the lake it went. I HATE that.
Beautiful piece. Man, that sucks! Know anyone who dives? Decades ago I was at my wife’s company Christmas party at a meeting hall. I was carrying a S&W snub 38 in a belly holster. The place had this little men’s room, no lock on the door, and no stall, just a regular toilet. So I had to sit to do my business, and I had to remove the belly holster. So I set it on top of the toilet tank and covered it with a little hand towel in case anyone came in. I didn’t want someone to be alarmed by the sight of the gun. Half way home I realized I had absentmindedly left it there. I turned around and drove back praying .... I went to the restroom, and there it was ... right where I left it with the hand towel still covering it. I guess we all make mistakes ... I got lucky. Sorry about your 329.
You were going to shoot the fish?!? Before they could shoot you? Why on earth would anyone need a handgun to go fishing?
Yeow!! First time I carried - 3" XD40, IWB holster - I went into the men's room at the local McD to TCOB. In front of the urinal, I unhitched by belt... and my jeans fell to my knees. Whoops! Lesson: Use the stalls, even if you just need to pee. I didn't even catch any fish!!!
It needs a Crimson Trace laser grip and I prefer 5 shot 38sps stubs with a shaved trigger so it doesn't snap up. Usually it is women who opt for the alloy 5 shot 38sp short barrel revolvers, while men tend to opt for a .380 single stack as a pocket/purse handgun.
It needs X-frame grips, to get a little more rubber between the web of my hand and the frame - recoil with full power loads is, well, stout. It' all academic now, of course.
~ Oh man - that's a nice pistol ! A good clean and inspect & gun lube - it will be fine. { I thought this was about a hairpiece }
Another word for criminals on the water. Or trouble in general. A few years ago the Mrs and a daughter were kayaking in the backwaters of a Florida coastal estuary. Two guys in a bass boat started flirting and said they were going to give them both a tow back - ignoring being told no. A kayak can not be towed fast and those shallow waters are very dangers in many ways - from alligators and sharks to being dragged across shells cutting a person to shreds. As one started to tie up our daughter's kayak ignoring "get away from us!", the Mrs then shouted out "Stop or you die!" - a red laser dot from her S&W 38sp's Crimson Trace on his chest. The other buddy shouted at him "she means it!" (He was correct). Calling her a "crazy b.tch" they left quickly. THAT is one reason to carry a firearm while boating. You can be all alone - very alone - with no help that could even get to you in the event criminals come along when out on the water.
You don’t know the half of it. One time, when I was a little boy, I stole 50 cents out of my mom’s purse and spent it all on candy. And I don’t always obey the posted speed limit. Sometimes I cuss too.
The best value of having a handgun is it makes all but certain no one at all is hurt. Unarmed people are attacked. Armed people rarely are.
People who start with "I hate guns!!!!" and work backwards from there cannot ever conceive of a reason they'd need one. Until they do. Their reality then comes crashing down upon them.
Exactly. Often, fishing puts you somewhere where you are your only help. I have had 3 different times over the years while fishing where it was good that I was armed.
Two guys attempted a robbery of me and my friends at a remote boat ramp one time. Claimed they were armed but weren’t. Short story: They survived but went to jail that day. They picked the wrong people to rob and they came close to making the last mistake of their lives.
And a few years ago in my state a woman decided to take a hike by herself, unarmed, in a wilderness area and was killed by a cougar. https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/2018/10/oregon_hiker_killed_in_cougar.html
Those two guys were actually extremely lucky that it was us - mature, experienced, trained men, not given to panic. Very lucky.
~ California needs to go the way of Florida. Crime would drop like a rock ! A sissy state is bad for everyone.
