Gas power more easily retrofits an existing coal plant. This is a step up, but an honest article would also talk about the decline of coal.

    Coal was in fact included.
. . . . There is no evidence that China and India are going through an energy transition. Instead, the numbers show those two countries are building staggering amounts of new coal-fired capacity. That capacity is far greater than the amount of nuclear capacity they are building. This chart, which I first published last December, uses updated figures from the International Energy Agency and Global Energy Monitor.

This thread isn’t about China or India.

    Please review #268.
The "energy transition" is a lie. New fossil fuel electricity generation continues to outpace renewables both in the US and abroad, and the lead is growing.

Yeah he ignores that inconvenient fact because he is so invested in the renewable's propaganda.

Now this predicable event happened because Solar advocates are in on the scam:

The World’s Largest Floating Solar Farm Wrecked by a Storm Just Before Launch

    LINK

HA HA HA HA HA....... is was so predictable.......

How bizarre. Were you also cheering when the recent tornadoes tore paths through the US Midwest? Really warped tommy.

The wording in the title of this thread is a bit deceptive.

50% of new capacity where new capacity may only be 1% of total capacity.

Are you DENYING that over 50% of added capacity in the US in 2023 was from solar?

Regarding the US, you're wrong. It's obvious from the following graph that wind and solar are the big growth electricity generators. Natural gas has merely displaced coal, which I've already mentioned. However you will notice in the graph that the combination of natural gas and coal has slightly declined fairly consistently since about 2008 (the start of Obama Renewable Energy growth).

Yup it is plate capacity but never actually attained.

I have a 2.8 KW residential PV system. The other day I looked at my inverter, and it showed 3.1K. Never say never.

    What are you upset about?

WUWT QUOTED the article that stated it was floating BEHIND the dam in the backwater area, but the world biggest solar failure was easily damaged by rather feeble 50KPH (30mph) winds.

It was never going to last long and the idea of rebuilding the mess would be consider idiotic.

    LOL

And then they started waffling on about ships at sea meanwhile they are hyping this one but ignoring five other very large floating solar arrays two of which were much larger than the one tn the WUWT blog post

KW is the instantaneous power being generated by a device. That’s what is displayed on an inverter.

KWh would be production that would be the number that I would be interested in.

For the first 5 years of owning renewables (solar PVs and a residential wind turbine), I generated a surplus in every month.

Kwh would be what I would be interested in.

I can run a crank and generate kilowatts just about how long it takes.

I'm thinking that self-owned solar panels are probably going to be illegal in the next couple of decades. I like the idea of being independent but the power companies don't.

I didn’t address it because the numbers you mentioned ( capacity vs actual generation) were ridiculous and simply displayed a political bias.

Here in Colorado, where we have the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), renewables aren’t a “political wedge issue. You seem to love to make renewables political.

I didn't ask anything about it you just brought it up to avoid the point I made.

    But capacity doesn't mean anything.
No I didn't mention politics I mentioned power companies do you think they're a political party?

Also there's no such thing as renewable that's a lie people tell each other. When your photovoltaic cells are at the end of their life they're not made into new ones they're just thrown in the dump. And you know what they do to make those in China?

    Maybe I'm just not gullible.
