Many people are outraged that Eko, the 8-year-old Malayan Tiger, died as a result of River Rosenquist sticking his arm through the cage into the tiger's enclosure.

A sheriff's deputy shot the tiger to save the young man, because the tiger had its teeth clamped down on the man's arm and would not release.

The tiger was considered an endangered species.

Pamella Seay, a law professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, said Rosenquist trespassed among other things, and he will be charged with something.
"Depending on how they would charge, it theoretically could be a third-degree felony," said Seay. "We look at the value of the animal, and that animal has an astronomical value. it is irreplaceable."

"When you cause a living thing to die, you should be behind bars," said Mellissa Ault, the creator of a petition named Justice for Eko.

This issue deals with the concept of "responsibility", and how that should apply in specific situations.

This is the zoo cleaner whose arm was bitten, River Rosenquist, age 26, who was not supposed to be near the tiger cage at the time.

River Rosenquist, 26, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries to his arm after authorities and zoo workers said he entered an unauthorized area near the tiger's enclosure at Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens after hours, allegedly to pet or feed the animal.
The tiger grabbed Rosenquist's arm, prompting the cleaner to call for help. A Collier County Sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene shot Eko in the neck to get it to release Rosenquist's mangled arm.
