I been queazy sick from plucking the suckers off a patch of tobacco and I have heard that "green tobacco illness" is prevented among field labor by wearing plastic suits and gloves. Nicotine is real poisonous stuff and though it can kill a man it probably takes more than a pack of cigarettes to kill three men.

The ld50 (the dose at which half the patients die) for nicotine is 0.5-1.0 milligrams per a kilogram of body mass according to Google. That means if you weigh 100 kilograms it it'll take at least 50 milligrams of nicotine to put you out. Not a big pill, 50 milligrams.

Yup, tomatoes and tobacco are in the same family, the nightshades or solanaceae.

Back in 1800's tobacco was commonly cut to make it cheaper. It was usually cut with tomato leaves.

Not knowing the answer to that myself, my curiosity peaked and I looked it up. -

A typical cigarettes contains 0.75 to 1.0 grams of "tobacco product" and contains 10-15mg of nicotine. But, when you smoke it most of the nicotine goes up in smoke and the smoker is absorbing about 10%, or maybe 1-1.5 milligrams.

Now, considering that there are 20 cigarettes in a pack, and if each cigarette has 15mg nicotine, that's a total of 300mg of nicotine. The Lethal Dose 50% of nicotine for humans is between 0.5 and 1 mg per a kilogram of body weight. So, there is enough nicotine in a pack of cigarettes to snuff out a couple big strong dudes, about 300kg worth.

But you can only absorb about 20-30 mg of that whole package's nicotine by smoking it, which is enough to make you awful queesy but it probably won't kill you. Even if you ingested a whole pack orally your body would not absorb all the nicotine from the tobacco before you vomit violently.

But if a package of twenty cigarettes is reduced to pure nicotine and shot into a vein?

    Yup. Three funerals. Maybe

Pure nicotine is no joke. It's looks like crude oil but it can readily be absorbed through your skin. Plenty of people have checked out while trying to make it.
