So, when do you think the liberals will be asking her to resign from the court or picket her home? It looks like she made hundreds of thousands or possibly millions off this scheme. Will she be indicted. Will Joe Biden actually learn her name? Will the networks campaign to get rid of her?

Personally I think they should all be asked for resignations but I love that a few books is somehow WORSE than million dollar gifts

IDK but it isn't unusual. It is how writers inflate their numbers for the best sellers list. Conservatives do it as well. https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...4f3820-9ca5-11eb-b7a8-014b14aeb9e4_story.html

And Senate Republicans are opposed to an ethics bill for SCOTUS.

So which is it? SCOTUS should be subject to ethics rules or not?

This is an abuse of power. It's far worse than a few gifts.

So you pretend to have a problem with the op material but then you make an excuse for that same material....

Was this post powered by aluminum?

This kind of abuse of power is already illegal.

Yes. Staff paid for by the people should in no circumstance help someone conduct their private business.
Level of scandal on a 1 to 10 scale? 1.01
She should be fined a modest amount and admonished.

Hey, if their work isn’t worth paying for, why do you care? Do you work for free?

But if they make any ruling that is remotely construed as "right wing"..... Liberals immediately cry foul.

"Elections have consequences", so suck it

So … you want to hold Sotomayar to an ethical standard, but holding SCOTUS justices to an ethical standard is illegal?

    Can you explain that contradiction?

Refusal to recuse is a bigger abuse of power

No conservative politicians. People who do speaking gigs who are also writers often have contract riders that require wherever they are doing an appearance has to buy X number of their books. It is a way to pump up their sales volumes to get their books on best sellers lists. Now if it were just to make sure they have some to autograph during meet and greets it is logical, but often the number is so large that it is clearly all about "branding" themselves as a best-selling writer.

BTW, if you use firefox, you can sometimes bypass the paywall on articles by putting it into reader mode. You click on the little button that looks like this at the end of your address bar:

Sotomayor has refused to revise, too. But, it isn't a crime.

Where did I say holding judges to an ethical standard is illegal?

Also, there's this, from the OP, as provided by the SC....

    SNIP
“Schools have occasionally invited Justice Sotomayor to take part in a program in which they select a book for an entire school or a freshman class, and the Justice gives a book talk. When she is invited to participate in a book program, Chambers staff recommends the number of books based on the size of the audience so as not to disappoint attendees who may anticipate books being available at an event, and they will put colleges or universities in touch with the Justice’s publisher when asked to do so.”

When you look at it through that lens, ensuring there are enough books for the program doesn't seem out of line.

Assuming the "they" in bold is the school, I'm seeing even less of an issue here...

Regardless, on the current SCOTUS scandal level, this may not even rise to 1.01....

Well, one could argue that gifts are gifts but that pressuring people to buy your book is a different matter.

That's exactly what I would say. I sometimes take relatives and friends to places they can't afford and I pay for them. Why can't a friend of a Supreme Court justice do the same thing? Or can they only not do that if they are perceived as conservative? As the saying goes, if liberals didn't have a double standard, they'd have no standards at all.

Judges judge legislation and legislators, not the other way around. We have three separate branches of government that are roughly equal. The purpose of the legislative branch is to write the laws. The purpose of the Executive branch is to execute or enforce legislation. The purpose of the judicial branch is to interpret legislation and be sure it conforms to the constitution.

You can't have the people that write laws interpreting their own legislation. History shows the legislative branch can't marry themselves to the constitution.
