I would understand the decision if there were enough J & J doses and clearly there isn't. The Astrazeneca vaccine has been shown to lessen the symptoms of the SA variant so is better than nothing. However I agree that it is a good policy that any particular vaccine type should go to where it is most effective.

I note "The vaccination delay has set back an ambitious plan to inoculate about 40 million people – 67 percent of the population – by the end of 2021." This seems very slow given that countries like the UK have given 15M first doses and 500K second doses in a little over 6 weeks. The key to success is to give out the vaccine as quickly as possible and 67% of the population in one year is not really fast enough given that they are rejecting some doses

Well there is the lingering question of whether or not the other vaccines are as effective as represented since they were never tested on people by jabbing them and then directly exposing them to control for the distancing, mask wearing, etc.

If the AZ injection is based on the same gene manipulation model as the Moderna and Pfizer products are, it doesn't work at all to provide immunity. It is not a vaccine in traditional medical and legal definitions.

I wonder about the Sputnik shot, whether it too is gene manipulation or actually an old-fashioned vaccine?

    Which genes are being manipulated?

Those genes formed by various RNA segments.

In the highly unlikely circumstance that you are genuinely curious, spend some time at David Martin's site. Home | Urban Global Health Alliance

Please tell me in your own words which genes are being manipulated. I'm not giving my details to some obscure site. Perhaps you could start by saying which genes are formed by various RNA segments?

"15M first doses and 500K second doses" is dangerous ... I do prefer 2,000,000 first and second doses. Anyway UK is following its own strategy.

Regarding South Africa, the local experts have suggested the government to renounce to AstraZeneca vaccine [in my opinion also Italy had to renounce to it, but we have ordered it ... so we are going to receive it].

As an aside note I remember that UK Prime Minister warned the population that about 75,000 deaths because of Covid were almost certain ... today UK records about 119,000 deaths: Boris is well under budget.

Every major medical research agency, every university, every major hospital all finds very effective immunity.

This baseless claim from the anti-vaxers, the vitamin salesman, and even the few who really believe that BS about this that there is "no immunity from these RNA devices", otherwise known as vaccines to the rational people, is just another Flat Earthers who should get real jobs.

I am waiting for these proponents of this desire for the past of "an old-fashioned vaccine" to suggest we can go back to the kids to milk cows in order them to get kids to get immunized from smallpox from being exposed to the milking work in dairy cows and get the kids to the "natural herd immunity" from cowpox and thus smallpox!

(The observation from a doctor that milkmaids rarely had the scars from smallbox that was routine in many of the population in the past. With anti-vaxers, I guess children growing up with scars from smallpox is just a small price to pay to not have a $3 smallpox vaccine that wildly enriches the pharmaceutical industry!)
