Noem, Potential Trump VP Pick, Banned From 15 Percent of Her State (msn.com)
As South Dakota governor Kristi Noem vies for a top position in a second Trump White House, she appears to be more focused on shoring up her vice-presidential chances than on making allies at home — to the point that she is no longer welcome in around 15 percent of the state she governs.

Over the past few months, Noem has made several comments about alleged drug trafficking on Native American reservation lands, infuriating a number tribes in the state. In February, the Oglala Sioux Tribe banned her from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the fifth largest in the United States, for claiming without evidence that drug cartels were connected to murders on the reservation.,

The ban did not dissuade her from making more incendiary remarks. In March, Noem said at a community forum in Winner that there are “some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from cartels being there and that’s why they attack me every day.” When tribal leaders demanded an apology, Noem doubled down, issuing a statement to the tribes to “banish the cartels.” In response, the Cheyenne River Sioux forbade Noem from setting foot on their reservation, the fourth largest in the U.S. On Wednesday, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, the sixth largest in the U.S., banned her as well. On Thursday, a fourth tribe, the Rosebud Sioux, followed suit.

Can't comment on the cartel thing, so she could be right, but in general she's a moron Trump clone so wouldn't put it past her to be making it up entirely, just like her idol does.

The graph below is from the CDC. The second story cites an attorney with an Indian tribe in South Dalota describing the drug problem. Instead of asking Noem for help, they banned her.

Star Comes Out said he hopes Oglala Sioux’s lawsuit, which was filed just days after the Northern Cheyenne Tribe in Montana filed a similar one, will help to serve as an example for other tribes in the Great Plains and beyond who are facing similar situations.

The South Dakota reservation, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southeast of Rapid City, is located between the Nebraska border and the Bakken oil fields.

The location has made it convenient for both human and drug trafficking, explained Patricia Marks, an attorney with the tribe, while its lack of police has meant it’s known as a “lawless area.”

“We’ve had a radical increase in guns, gun violence,” she said. “We’ve had a radical increase in hard narcotics. It is heroin. It’s fentanyl. It’s meth. It is things that are life threatening.”

Neither post proves a point of the "cartels" being in SD.
What both show is that DRUGS are in SD......just as they are all over the US. BTW, the map is from 2011

    They can and did.
Noem doesn't give a crap about the people, much less Native Americans, of SD.

They are not part of the United States, are they? They don't have to follow our rules and make up their own.

Well, the drugs the cartels smuggle into the country are in SD, so it's logical they have some sort of presence. Yes, the map is old, but I doubt things improved much, especially with 3.5 years of Biden's open borders.

Biden said he worked out a deal with Xi on stopping the flow of fentanyl's raw materials from China - any word on how that's working out?

The Native Americans are up to their necks in cartel business.
Law enforcement is weak to non existent. You all have probably heard of drug and alcohol problems, well now it is worse - meth, fentanyl, tranq, etc plus manufacturing of drugs and human trafficking.
Dumping bodies on the Rez is nothing new. No one goes looking for non tribal members, and tribal members usually don't get lost, if they do they are not far away. Most of the Rez is unoccupied open range. If they find a body that is not one of theirs, they leave it lie.
They believe that eventually white men (= all non Indian) will eventually screw the pooch and they will survive to rise to greatness again.

Drugs are all over the US, as your map shows
No idea how it's "working out"

I believe I pointed out the date in my post. Do you think the drug problem has improved since then?

In a way, you're right. The tribal lands are sacred, the lands belong to the tribal people. Governor Noem ought to respect that.

I did not know this but in the Trump era, nothing is surprising anymore. In this case, it's even funny.

Not "in a way". The 'U.S. recognizes tribal nations as "domestic dependent nations".
    ~
    "Native American Policies". www.justice.gov.

Gov Noem has every right to speak her view that the Tribes are using the Res for Human Trafficking and Drug distribution.

'Tribal authority on Indian land is organic and is not granted by the states in which Indian lands are located.'
