'Startling': Americans feel increased anxiety as Covid cases surge

    We know early in the pandemic the cases were being overcounted, most notably due to tests having been tuned to try to eliminate false negatives and thus increasing the rates of false positives. We also know now that (unlike most other nations), the US counted most deaths with covid as deaths from covid even when the cause of death was most likely something else, because covid could have been a contributor.

    These are just two of the ways the number of cases/deaths can become a rather subjective figure when the methodology of measuring it is altered.

    So I'm not particularly convinced of anything other than no one really knows how many cases there were or are. Most likely theres more, but that always happens in winter.
