Environmentalism kills jobs. The Canadians will probably ship their oil to the Chinese, and America will continue to buy oil from Arab dictators.

Blame the Nebraskans. They didn't want it in their backyard.

Blame physics. The Earth's climate could do without the garbage.

As for job losses, it's like 2-5 thousand temporary jobs, mostly nonlocal, offset by environmental damage and higher midwest oil prices.

So thank you, President Obama, for supporting the 99% on this one.

Um... you do realize we already buy more oil from Canada than anywhere else, right?

We are their biggest customer in just about everything, because we consume about 85% of their exports.

By contrast, Saudi Arabia is a distant third in how much they supply us with oil. We actually buy more oil from Mexico than there.

Not necessarily, there's a big outcry regarding the pipe line proposed from the Alberta tar sands to Kitimat's port to supply the Chiinese. It goes through B.C.'s pristine rain forest which is home to the Kormode bear. A genetically recessive gene of the black bear produces these white bears, which are very rare. First Nations people and environmentalists are heartily against this pipe line. Our spectacular coast line, home to whales and other plentiful wild life could be in jeopardy. The tankers would have to navigate more narrow channels than the Valdez did, and we all know what happened there. I am against this pipe line. They should take the billions of dollars that the pipe line would cost and invest it in alternative energy, that itself would produce hundreds, if not thousands of jobs....I'm sick of greed killing this planet.

I agree, but the construction of another pipeline is not a big environmental deal. The real reason the left opposes this pipeline is because it wants to eliminate any other form of energy which could impede the development of green energy.

I didn't mean to suggest that the Arab world is the sole and exclusive exporter of crude oil to America.

Alternative or Green Energy isn't going to be viable in the US. Those investments aren't going to happen without govt. involvement. There is no longer a congressional majority in favor of the development of such energy sources.
