    Syria welcomes Russia’s offer to put its chemical weapons under intl control

    When I heard of this I was deeply pleased. Putin puled another rabbit out of his butt and slapped the waffling Obama with it. It is, as far as I'm concerned a viable proposal however, some real concerns are;

    Point being, stating this is a plan is one thing and, actually implementing it is quite another. As we were witness to Iraq agreeing to UN Ceasefire conditions and then flagrantly flaunting the authority of them for over a decade and complying with none of them so what is to say this will not occur again.

    I foresee Obama, who has taken so much time to become the seemingly confused leader he is on this matter not sure which way to turn or to step back or to continue and actually use this Putin move to take a leadership role in this matter while at the same time cleaning his underwear over the lack of results he would have had to provide with his Congressional move. Here, I see that he will attempt to show Congress, who actually agree with him that Assad din in fact use Chemical weapons, that if they approve action against him, it may not necessarily be used and, this will get his resolution passed thus providing a victory for him that he can slink away with.

    It then falls on his shoulders to push the international community to rather up pressure on Assad to comply with the agreement while Putin will be leaning back pulling strings here and there to obfuscate US actions and results without being too obvious. In all, I doubt anything substantial will come of this.

    The other problem is;

    On one hand you have Assad feeling like he has no worries n the world at this point and on the other, you have the opposition saying;

    It is my belief that the chemical weapons issue has to be an iron clad deal with pre authorized force approved and defined otherwise, it will be useless. As well, the international community cannot carry out an inspection regime without full access to any and all facilities and as such, require order and calm in the nation on the part of both sides hence, there is a further opportunity here to use this issue to implement a peace plan similar to what I posted here;

    Going off the Reservation On Syria

    If a resolution containing some of the precepts contained therein are amalgamated with the CW res then this may actually do some good and take away any temptation by Assad to just work with it long enough for world attention to dissipate and then return to business as usual. It would also temper the Oppositions unwillingness to negotiate and allow the regime to survive.

    I would agree only if the US is in charge.
