I grew up in rural upstate New York in the late 1940s and 1950s. We had a wooden box telephone mounted on the wall and were on a party line. Even though we were part of a small phone network we got dial phones earlier than everyone else who lived within the centralized district where we went to school, sometime in the 50s. Seems like a long time ago and a world away from the technology we have available to us today.
Yip party lines.. the ol' gossips miss them! But then we miss the ol' gossips, maythey rest in peace. When they'd eavesdrop on our phone calls we would call them out by name "Betsy, get off the line! : LOL
One thing tho', we didn't need no stinkin' remotes for the TV.. we only had one channel, and were damned glad to recieve that! I still play a game on long trips thru vast waste lands of radio dead America.. it's called "name that tune" coming thru with the static, I've been banned for playing it with other people in the car, seems they do not have the tolerance for static that I do.
