This is unexpected for me. I didn't think Cruz would come forward and endorse Trump after not endorsing him at the Republican convention. Cruz says he is concerned about the Supreme Court and that has prodded him to make the endorsement. I'm not sure about the timing, because the Supreme Court issue hasn't changed from the convention until now, but he is keeping his promise to endorse the nominee. What are your thoughts on Cruz endorsing Trump?
Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. Cruz is an a**. But if it helps Trump gather a few more votes, more power to him.
It's probably due to Priebus. Who can respect a man that first demanded the losers endorse the winner, then reneges when he is asked to endorse after losing? Pretty sure he realizes he's going to have a tough time in 2020 if he didn't.
You may be right about Priebus and support for the future. It just seems like odd timing to me… a Friday afternoon before the first debate. I could see the spin better if the endorsement was made after the debate. Cruz could say the Supreme Court mattered to him, but Trump's performance in the debate prodded him to endorse.
The only reason Cruz didn't endorse Trump sooner is because he was biding his time to beat Hillary in 2020 and didn't want to look bad by endorsing the guy that the establishment refused to endorse.. This tells me that he thinks Trump will win. He'll definitely have no chance in 2024 if he refuses to endorse the next president.
So you didn't buy that Cruz was insulted that Trump said things about his wife and father? I thought he was convincing when he said that earlier. Maybe that's why this announcement caught me by surprise. - - - Updated - - - If and when he says something about it, I hope you come back to this thread and post it.
Any possibility Trump could appoint Cruz to the Supreme Court and Cruz serve as long as he wanted then resign and still run for the presidency later?
There was more to his endorsement than the SC. Here's his post; https://www.facebook.com/tedcruzpage/posts/10154476728267464 His endorsement goes way beyond the SC and he's spot on.
Ah, thanks. This is much more than the CNN article mentioned. It did mention that Trump said he didn't want Cruz's endorsement and wouldn't accept it if it was offered, but it looks like he changed his mind like Ted did. I do find it interesting that the list of potential Supreme Court nominees is what swayed Ted, because Trump had already released a set of potential Supreme Court nominees back during the primary. - - - Updated - - - Fair enough.
I'm sure there were a lot of people ready to vote for Hillary who now have changed their mind that Ted Cruz has spoken.
What a lame reply. Nobody was suggesting this would convert Hillary fans. This may get some conservatives to change their mind, though.
Indeed, a union of Ted Cruz(religious evangelionals) with the Trump coalition would be just enough to push Trump over the edge, if the Independents split and Hillary continues to struggle with millenials. He even managed to put his "vote your conscious" statement in context to actually be of benefit to Donald. It could be a major shift in a way Hillary isn't liking right now. Less odds of being 50 points ahead now
Who were those die hard Ted Cruz voters changing their mind from? Was Jesus on the ticket? The religious nutjob right will vote for trump because they don't really care about morals or values.
Ted Cruz, you can call his dad an assassin and his wife ugly, but he'll still endorse you if it helps him politically.
Well, you're going to see a lot of the RINO's doing this because now they're willing to accept he's going to win and what position does that put them in if they oppose him? Would they prefer Hillary? probably but ...... Look at this point it would be career suicide not to endorse Trump..... The RINO's and neocons are trying to salvage their party.
Ted Cruz is whip smart and there are probably many factors that have lead to this endorsement. He could well be thinking of the Supreme Court or is seeing the handwriting on the wall and doesn't want to isolate himself as Trump assumes power. And I'm certain he is rightly horrified at the idea of a Clinton presidency. The endorsement is timely and I don't see any down side to it. The conservative vote is coalescing around Trump unless you are a Never Trumper and in that case you almost certainly aren't a conservative anyway.
Cnn headline: white child of JFK killer endorses trump! - - - Updated - - - politicians get over a lot more than that to advance their career.
From not voting. Staying home. I'd put their "morals and values" ahead of any Democrat voting bloc. Seriously, union goons? Welfare recipients? Paid left-wing bloggers? Anyone whose livelihood depends on the Democratic Party.
