Here's another story about a cop who stopped a kid while he was just walking home. I think that it represents what a lot of cops are really like. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-him-bike/?tid=hybrid_experimentrandomuk_3_na
That's an awe inspiring story...I love when people offer the less fortunate, not lazy bums, a helping hand.
Police always get a bad rap but every day thousands of people in law enforcement protect and serve the citizens of their communities and do good things but these rarely get credit its a few bad apples who get all the press. I'm of the mind anyone willing to get between someone with a gun and me is high on my very cool people list and if that happened officers widely would put their lives on the line for me.
Here's a similar story: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/07/1...less-teen-who-biked-six-hours-to-college.html
good story, though his family was also in law enforcement, so that may of also played a roll, cops do stick together and like to help their own .
Here's another story of a cop doing good. (Black man, white cop, btw) Grieving Man Pulled Over by Officer Who Drives Him 100 Miles to Attend Sisters Funeral http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...-drives-him-100-miles-attend-sisters-funeral/
Seems like this is one of those stories where left and right can agree on something. It shows that people are generally decent on both sides, but that the political divisions are amplified by the media and boards like this, resulting in everyone expecting the worst from their political opponents. In reality, 95%+ of people are decent people who just want to make a living, do well, and improve life for their kids (and that goes for Muslims as well). What did Sting say in his song: "The Russians love their children too". So do conservatives and liberals. Note is edit: That goes for the police as well.
well since I am a critical person, I am going to poop on this story... why didn't they just give him one of the likely dozens or in some cases of large cities, thousands of bicycles they recover every single year that end up going to the auctions... that would have cost literally $0 and the $500 maybe could have gone to something like police overtime pay or just about anything else... let's say they had no recovered bicycles that year sitting in a warehouse waiting for the annual auctions, they could have bought a $99 bicycle and save the $401 for just about anything else once again... I guess my whole point in this is going to be, its a feel good story that highlights typical government waste... while I'm glad it went to an actual poor person, I'm just reminded how terrible they are at solving problems in efficient affordable ways, its always excess... why not just give him a bus pass for what we could assume would be almost an entire year in most cities for $500... then he could spend that time on the bus reading the newspaper or doing homework or anything other than pedaling as well... or I guess the most obvious, why not just give the $500 to a mechanic who is willing to volunteer his time and expertise and put the money towards parts for the cart to repair it... I know I know, I should just absorb the joy and let go of the rage, but I think this is just another example of people who meant well, wanted to do something good, and clearly it wasn't coming from their wallets so they just didn't think of the best use of those dollars... so enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling, we just wasted another opportunity to do something BETTER, instead we settled for something LESS, because thats what tax dollars do...
Of course police aren't entire rotten to the core. The problem I have with them is the lack of civility they show when they decide it's not warranted. Not when they feel it is. That's called 'professionalism', and is something that police quite often do not have. If you work with the public, you don't get to decide who is treated with respect and who doesn't. That's just my take on police. I've seen them treat people who don't deserve respect with respect, and I've seen them treat people who have done them no wrong with lots of disrespect. I guess you could say it's like the whole islamic terrorist thing. Lots of decent muslims getting their beards in a twist because they are lumped in with the nut jobs, but they refuse to clean their own house so they all get lumped in together.
Just in case any liberals were wondering, YES there is evil cop action found buried in the story. Those evil bastards bought this guy a Chinese bike, hence supporting the off-shoring of American jobs...
I LUV this story! A great example of the kindness in many that the rest of us never hear about. This cop not only gave the kid a lift home, but he didn't forget about him and his situation and did something about it to help him out.......
Cops do some good things. Everybody knows that. They just need to do a better job of weeding out murderers and rapists. The overwhelming majority of Cops are good people, it is just a few bad apples that screw it up for everybody. People of below average intelligence who get a badge and then go on a power trip and murder and rape. There are a lot of stories like that. Then stories like the one in the OP balances things out.
