Let's see if I got this straight, In February, the Texas power grid failed because as the Governor of Texas stated, his State is not prepared to handle extreme cold weather, they are only equipped to handle extreme heat.

But the moment extreme heat hits Texas, their power grid can't handle it and those who have smart thermostats in Texas had their temperatures raised automatically.

But let's also not forget that Gov. Abbott believes the southern border is far more important than his own States power grid.

Good lord, thank God I don't live in Texas. That State would be a living hell if they had to deal with 117-120 degrees.

So, your defense of Texas is that they are now just like Cali?

I thought the power gird in Texas was supposed to be the envy of the modern world.

I thought Texas was a shining light of Conservatism?

Also, what does California have to do with the failing power grid in Texas?

Maybe the big wall Abbott is building will provide AC to his people if they wanna move down south?

The problem is there is no profit to be made by having a power grid that can handle the extremes of either cold or hot, thus the companies in Texas have no real reason to make one that does.

I can assure you the CEOs of the power companies did not have their thermostats messed with

They opted into a program that allows the power company to adjust the temps, in return the power bill is usually lower. In CA you can opt in for a lower bill but they SHUT OFF YOUR POWER COMPLETLY.

and 78 degrees doesn’t seem all that hot to me. How about you?

Who said the power grid in Texas is failing? Automatically adjusting thermostats is part of the plan, it took foresight to do that. But at least they have power, in CA they turn the power off by remote control. And I mean OFF.

We had a similar program here in Pa. with PECO where they installed an add on to an agreeing customers heat pump outdoors so that in peak demand times they could control demand in exchange for a slightly reduced bill which they JUST discontinued. This was done via an agreed upon add on installed by PECO not by a smart thermostat.

They get to keep their power on unlike the folks in CA.

Let me explain to the Texas hating bigots how this works:

Texas gets to lower the temps for people who opt into it, and like we learned during the cold spell they had last winter, this affords the customer savings on their bill. The residents who opted into this DID NOT LOSE POWER.

In CA their plan it to offer a service that lowers your bill on the condition the power company can completely shut off your power during peak usage. When that doesn't work, they initiate rolling blacks out to entire areas and it doesn't matter if you opted into anything. And CA seems to have these rolling black outs every year, and then there are the water shortages, wild fires, pollution, etc.

One of the big things in CA when I lived there is everyone had a generator or two to keep the fridge and fans working.

The plan in Texas is working as advertised and the bigots can't stand it.

If it is what I'm thinking of, there was a program where you could get a rebate for installing a programmable thermostat. We got one, but for some reason we didn't qualify for the rebate, can't remember why. Sounds like one of the checkboxes involved opting into this program where they can remotely change your temp during high-demand times. That said, I haven't read anything saying that people can't change it again manually. If that's the case, and if they opted in, I don't see a big deal here. And, trust me, I was quite vocal back when we had our freeze and it was 31 degrees in the hottest room in our house and we were without power for several days.

That said, we have solar panels now and we are producing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more energy than we are consuming, even keeping the house at 71. I'm not cranking it up to 78 when that would put my upstairs office, where I spend most of my time, in the mid 80s.

Do you have a source for this? Around here it didn't matter what program you had opted into. It was purely based on your address.

you are ruining the Democrat voters from tossing trial balloons trying to see what narrative might stick against good governors. And, this has nothing at all to do with a governor.

My temp on my window unit is now reading 83. I have it set lower but you can only expect so much from one 5K BTU unit, Feels fine in here compared to the 93 outside. I dont even have AC in my bedroom, just 2 fans and I sleep fine. And I work nights and typically sleep from 8-9 am to up to 4 pm.

So they signed up for this and the OP is complaining? Must be a slow 'outrage' day....

It sort of does have something to do with the governors when they declare that "new reforms fixed all of the flaws".

you and your fellow Democrat voters are going to have to find a topic that has legs on Abbott and DeSantis

Covid and the grid won't be it given how well both states are doing.

Off topic but maybe you know; when did the messaging of Jan 6 change from "insurrection" into destructive rioting?

We all knew that it wasn't an insurrection but when did you Democrat voters realize that it was a failed narrative and change the message?

I do not vote Democrat and do not live in Fla or Texas so neither mean anything to me. I just love the irony of everything being fixed three days before it is all ****ed up again.

I did not know it had changed, thanks for letting me know.
