The shooter is a black male. He did turn himself in, but was released on only $3,000 bail and received only 90 days in jail. He stated that he was in his apartment next to the victim and his gun went off while he was modifying it.

Sounds like someone who didn't need to own a gun in the first place. It takes a real genius to modify your weapon while you have a round chambered. Like the idiots who clean their guns while they are loaded...

My bet is his story that it just went off is nothing more than a story to cover his ass. He was more than likely trying to be gangster on TikTok or Instagram.

Yeah that affected me back in college. Guy was cleaning his loaded pistol, and it went off, went through the wall, and shattered the lamp next to where I usually sit. I wasn't home, didn't return home for like 4 days it was spring break or something. He said he knocked, but never notified authorities. He got reckless endangerment, I think. It's definitely one of those crimes that falls more under stupid than malicious, though.

Accident or not, we all know how this would have gone down if the roles were reversed....

Accident will always happen. When I was in Germany, A Bradley was loaded on a railway car right behind an M1 tank. Somehow the Badley's 20mm gun fired and hit the tank in its exhaust... the most vulnerable spot on it.

I took Command of a 175mm Artillery Battery when the previous Commander had one of his rounds hit a furniture factory at Grafenwohr on a Sunday morning.

All we can do is try to do better. Perfection doesn't exist in this life.

Not sure... he was transferred somewhere else. The odd thing was that the SAFETY NCO on the gun line made a mistake. It was really all his fault. And when the Forward Observer didn't see any impact where he was looking, he radio'd back, "Round unobserved. Repeat". So the idiots sent him ANOTHER ROUND! Thankfully, it landed in a heavily forrested area next to the furniture factory. Again no one was hurt. Range control completely shut them down at that point.

I have my family tree on my father's side that my uncle put together. It list one relatives death as accidental gunshot wound while cleaning, I think it was 1912.

I can't help but wonder if that's how they politely say someone committed suicide in those days.

Assuming the man was familiar with firearms you would think anyone with any degree of familiarity would first make sure a gun was empty before doing anything with it besides loading and shooting it.

Wow... the old days when certain things were considered to carry a stigma... suicide... divorce.. sexual confusion, single parenthood... before the "ANYTHING GOES" days led to the chaos we're seeing today.

People make a lot of assumptions that don't pan out, hence the exorbitantly high rate of gun-related injuries and fatalities in our great country.

But we must never allow the government to do its job and protect people, because it will surely enslave us all the moment we do.

in what area? two thirds of gun shot deaths are suicide. not a public safety issue. Not something that concerns most people and if guns were actually eliminated (perhaps by unicorn riding fairies or elves?) Japan has proven that people can off themselves rather easily with other means. Then we have the 12-14K murders a year-80% or more involves mopes killing mopes or the close associates (ie those engaged in felonies who have yet to get an adult record) killing close associates of mopes. That leaves about 2K a year of cases where innocent people are murdered.

If you are depending on the government to make life safe for you, you're going to wake up in a nanny State someday.

I don't think the government's job is to try to remove all risk from life for everyone.

In the country of at least 320 million people with roughly 400 million firearms I don't think it's really as big of a deal as the left makes it out to be.

I'm at far greater risk behind the wheel on the road every day from distracted drivers than I ever will be from a gun.

Are you referring to events like this
    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...YQFnoECAsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0v0Wx6xoMQMUpmn3H_Ys3B

where the gun owner was released and charges dropped? The gun owner did not even bother to call the police and it was left to the victim's son to discover the body. Was Maxwell Williamson "likely trying to be gangster on TikTok or Instagram."? Lovely racist statement liked by three of your pals

For killing someone? Probably more than 90 days in jail or something.

What sort of sentence do you think it should carry?

Oh I think that anyone who kills someone with a gun, accident or not, should receive a much longer sentence. It's not like a car where someone can be killed by stepping out in front of a car or a tire may puncture causing the car to veer into a person. If a gun owner accidentally kills or injures someone while cleaning a gun then at least a year

So are you going to be consistent? .
