Since the start of this year, close to 400 anti-voting bills have been introduced in state legislatures throughout the country, many of which demonstrate the even more radical stance Republicans have taken on voting and elections in the past few years. From catch-all voter suppression bills to hostile local government takeovers, these Republican-enacted bills are emblematic of the party’s increasingly antagonistic stance toward voting.

It's a long list. One few people are paying attention to as Don, in classic fashion, sucks all the oxygen from the room. Well, not all of it. There are still breathless accusations directed at H. Biden, Garland, Joe, as a means to obfuscate the legal woes and mounting evidence of Individual 1's criminal activities.

Make no mistake though. With Repubs facing an electoral uphill battle due to their widely unpopular positions on a bevy of issues, most notably abortion, their focus continues to be voter suppression rather than trying to appeal to a broader slice of the electorate. A tall task given the House Crazies spending their time showing little interest in addressing the nation's problems while instead choosing to ruminate over impeaching the prez, investigating the prez, and making as yet unproven allegations of misconduct by the prez. All this while inflation abates, employment stays strong, manufacturing returns to the US, and Joe sets off the spread that unappreciated message around the country.

Increased security and reestablished confidence in our elections is a pro-democracy bill, not an anti-voting bill. Nothing is keeping anyone from 'legally' voting.

    lol at "breathless accusations"
We'll see about that! Garland's daddy isn't the President.
Also the voter suppression is lies. Democrats pretend that blacks will spontaneously combust if they vote on a day that isn't sunday or try to obtain an ID (because for some reason they think they can't get an ID when almost ALL of them have one)
Good stuff! I look forward to seeing what happens.

So, against my better judgement, I drilled down into some of the links shown in the OP, and learned that the root beef centers around requiring people to prove they are who they claim to be by presenting ID in order to vote. I found it incredibly ironic that in one of the Texas studies, one way to get a 'waiver' (in quotes because that is not what they called it) to the ID laws was to present a bank statement in your name in lieu of actual ID... Which required an ID to get a bank account in the first place!!

Not to mention, merely presenting a piece of paper that has a name on it does not mean that is YOUR name, unless it is tied to some form of government issued photo ID (again, something that is required to obtain a bank account in the first place!)...

They noted that disabled persons, like myself, are less likely to have IDs, though I can't understand how that is possible. I still have a driver's license, and even renewed it since I got hurt, despite the fact I can't drive, if for no other purpose than to have a provable ID that I am who I claim to be!!!

And how ironic is it that the very same people who are freaking out over allowing otherwise eligible persons to carry a concealed weapon in public without a permit are perfectly fine with the idea of just taking someone's word for it that, once again, they are who they claim to be.

One thing I did not see mentioned that might have special relevance for the State of Texas is the fact that it is possible, indeed quite easy, for a non-citizen to obtain a voter's registration card/ID simply by presenting a form of ID as insignificant as a utility bill in "their" name, with no requirement to prove they are US Citizens in any way, as it's all on the honor system, but there is both no checking done, and really no way to do any checking as it is a no questions asked thing. Yes, it is illegal, on paper at least, but with no policing being done, and really no way to police it even if someone wanted to, any effort to do so would be pointless.

They also attacked restrictions on drop boxes, where literally anyone can drop off "ballots" allegedly from literally any other person, without so much as a record of the event being recorded or transcribed, and no form of identification of those persons done at all, as it's unmonitored and completely anonymous. If I knew, for example, that my 100-year-old neighbor died, it would be trivally easy for me to obtain his ballot, fill it out myself, drop it off in the middle of the night at one of those unmonitored boxes, and it would count as much as if he were still alive!

And they have the audacity to claim there isn't any fraud, but the reality is the way the entire house of cards is built, 50% of the total votes (or more) could be 100% fraudulent and there would be no way to know that, so of course there is no evidence of fraud, that is intentional!

I still vote, but sometimes wonder why I bother, given that the entire system is so trivially easy to game. People have to provide an ID to do just about anything in life, including buying some over the counter meds, but one of the most important things, determining the fate of the future of our country is all done with a wink and a nod, and anyone who dares to question that is tarred with accusations of racism and worse. Stop the world and let me off!!
