Nonprofit organizations are particularly dangerous because they are practically unaccountable for their actions. Early on they may reflected the misguided priorities of their founders or early major donors in areas well beyond the founders area of expertise. This is especially true when run by divorced spouses of founders. The big ones then take on a life of their own. They can select their own boards of directors, management and staff and essentially pursue any daft program that they please.
