On the 150th anniversary of secession, can America finally admit the truth about why the South lost the Civil War?

 

We lost because the north had infrastructure and more men. The country lost because the 10th amendment took a hike.

 

Superior industry and (civilian) leadership, coupled with some fortunate twists of fate.

Or is that not what you wanted us to say?

 

Or maybe at the 150th anniversary we should stop trying to replay the war, and realize that regardless of cause or blame, the Civil War happened, it was a tragic example of how horrible a Civil War is, and that it was part of what made our Country who we are.

 

actually the south had much better leadership the south lost due to lack of industry, railroads, and manpower. and the north seriously underestimated them too.

both sides pretty much started so i give blame to both. also who said the south won ?

also 1 civil war is not bad considering other countries.

The Civil War the one of the most bloody butchering of humanity that this country has ever displayed. Not including the wounded, we suffered the casualties in this war than any war we have ever fought. The barbarity we heaped on each other was inhumane.

So? Are you really trying to compare a war that included many nations and crossed entire continents with an internal war that covered a landmass less than half the size of modern day America? Really?

Actually, as history shows, the North won and kept the union together.

Before the Civil War, the union was voluntary.

The action of keeping the union together, by force, has actually crated and/or contributed to many of the social problems we have now, as well as created the behemoth of a federal government we have now. It centralized power which is in exact opposition to the principles of self-governance this country was founded upon.

Had the states retained their rights, we could have states where gays could marry and states where marriage is limited to 1 man 1 woman, as well as states that allow polygamy. The people of each state could decide for themselves.
We could have states that allow abortion and states where it is illegal.
We could have states where drugs are legal and states where they are not and the US federal government wouldn't have a need to fight to a war on drugs.


History is written by the victors.

The South was outclassed in every regard and the North fought with one hand tied behind its back.

There was that one blunder by Gen. Lee with his main Rebel battalion on the battlefield at Gettysburg.

That Pickets wooden fence in the open field, was the turning point in that war. Most of the fine Confederate Rebs were cut-down in the wide open. By canon fire and constant volley fire from above.
Thousands totally beaten and dimoralized.

Besides looseing Stonewall Jackson his number one General.....Lee and the Southern Army could never re-group since then.

The Confederacy wasn't America's idea. I will admit the U.S. government caused the Confederacy to be formed but it certainly wasn't their idea and it was an idea they would kill to defeat.

They won because of an endless, literally, supply of starving immigrants.
