    Putin does not care about the opinion of Americans and Germans

    No not really. People have rights including self-determination. Respecting those rights leads to stability. Putin violates those rights. It is true, though, that sometimes western powers cite international law when they really mean their own national interests. But Ukraine goes far beyond that - not that it's the only example, just the example the west has cared about lately.

    Ukrainian self-determination. America does not have the right to conquer and vassalize/enslave Canada just because it has the power to do so.

    I don't trust elections ran by Russia. In principle, though, people should be allowed to vote to join another country. Russia has spent many years with propaganda, manipulation, fomenting discord, etc. to try to claim these territories within the limits of the international order. The "special military operation" was going too far, by a lot, and now he's a war criminal.
