No not really. People have rights including self-determination. Respecting those rights leads to stability. Putin violates those rights. It is true, though, that sometimes western powers cite international law when they really mean their own national interests. But Ukraine goes far beyond that - not that it's the only example, just the example the west has cared about lately.

I don't trust elections ran by Russia. In principle, though, people should be allowed to vote to join another country. Russia has spent many years with propaganda, manipulation, fomenting discord, etc. to try to claim these territories within the limits of the international order.
