Well, it's the day after Christmas and I'm glad for the coming of good ole, boring January. I wonder if Americans are experiencing any materialism hangovers as a result of the annual Christmas orgy. I instinctively recoil at the thought that our nation's economy depends so much on how much useless junk we lavish on each other at this time of year. I guess it's kind of fitting in a land where shopping is almost a religious sacrament. Am I out of bounds in the complaint that in order to survive as a nation, we have to buy stupid battery operated gizmos out the ass that will in all likelihood never be used for anything, plus the zillions of other knick-knacks and paddy-wacks destined for the fast lane to the landfill?
the whole world depends on that its a consumerist economy, you dont need to buy a new phone every year just cause it does a couple of new things but the world economy would grind to a halt if people didnt, meaning the encourage consumption and use up finite resources not according to need. we'll pay for it one day in an already overpopulated world.
Ah yes...having to work in retail I am often absolutely disgusted by the number of people who whine, cry and moan about not getting a dollar off or us not having the piece of junk in stock that they want. It really drives me mad. All I got for Christmas this year was fun family time and new tires for my car courtesy of my dad so I can continue to get to and from work. I am appalled by consumerism in general and it sickens me what all this needless junk...no just the PACKAGING of said junk alone, will do to our world someday. It's sad. Anyways, I am glad it is over and glad to be getting back to normal!
