I say locally as to include the Americas. Because collectively we have enough oil for our needs on this continent.

Should we drill more and get it, or rely more on the government to enforce our rights to oil in the Middle East? I mean, why else are we there?!?!

Tell ya what. We replace our oil over the next 25 years, okay? We slowly replace it with ethanol and green energy (wind turbines; waterfalls, solar arrays, etc.) as we slowly produce more locally to fill our diminishing demand for oil for the next 25 years. Deal?

We can do a lot of things to get away from the Middle East while improving our energy policy.

We could drill more, build nuclear plants, invest more in solar and wind energy, etc.

We also could buy more oil from Brazil when they start increasing their production.

It makes no sense to me that we stifle our own production, yet buy from our enemies. Oil industry jobs are good jobs.

IMO, wind turbines are prehistoric technology and ugly.

It is my understanding that the quantity of oil isn't the problem, it is that we do not have refinery capacity for processing. I haven't verified that claim, though, so it could be wrong.

Yes- drill more- and keep the cost of gas up. Triple our nationwide reserve of gasoline on the ready.

Find new wells and tap them and sell it domestically and locally.

But do we agree that X% of the money goes to green energy??

by drilling more and collecting the royalties we will have more in the coffers , to honest I would like at least half to go to the debt , possibly some to develope green energy but with stipulations like the have to stay here for 50 years or something

Green energy will emerge(through private investment) on its own long before our fossil fuels are depleated.

So do we all agree to phase out gas while tapping gas locally?

This is true. Refining capacity is more important than drilling.

In the past it has shown that it was less costly to drill /extract oil from Middle Eastern countries + elsewhere than from ONSHORE - America . + we've recently see what happened OFFSHORE .
Extraction from the gynormous Canada Tars sands is extremely costly as are deeper drilling ONSHORE in US.

I'm afraid , sooner rather than later Americans will have to learn how to reduce energy - wheter from Oil or other Green sources . I'm told americans are the most wasteful + highest consumers of almost ALL of our planets resources .
