This woman reads from Mexican-American study books, being used to teach 3rd-12th grade.

I find it ironic that the guy at the end tells her not to use that kind of language because there are young people in the room...yet she was reading the words directly from the book that's being taught in school to children...unbelievable!

That's true if one is measuring the magnitude of the loss of personal autonomy and privacy. The entire DHS is evolving into a creature called Big Brother. It happens incrementally. And when the loss of rights is complete we will ask ourselves how we got here. The federal govt. is the friend of the federal govt.

US FBI warns of small airplane terrorist threats
Mon, Sep 05, 2011 Washington - GRIM ANNIVERSARY: A law enforcement bulletin says that al-Qaeda wants to use Westerners as flight instructors so terrorists can attack with small planes

The FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security have issued a nationwide warning about al-Qaeda threats to small airplanes, just days before the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Authorities say there is no specific or credible terrorist threat for the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, but they have stepped up national security a precaution. According to a five-page law enforcement bulletin issued on Friday, as recently as early this year, al-Qaeda was considering ways to attack airplanes.

The alert, issued ahead of the summers last busy travel weekend, said terrorists have considered renting private planes and loading them with explosives. Al-Qaeda and its affiliates have maintained an interest in obtaining aviation training, particularly on small aircraft, and in recruiting Western individuals for training in Europe or the United States, although we do not have current, credible information or intelligence of an imminent attack being planned, according to the bulletin. The bulletin also says al--Qaeda would like to use sympathetic Westerners to get flight training, then get them to become flight instructors. Matthew Chandler, a spokesman for Homeland Security, described the bulletin as routine. We shared this information with our partners to highlight the need for continued awareness and vigilance, he said.

Aviation security is much tighter than it was a decade ago, but al-Qaeda remains keenly interested in launching attacks on airplanes, believing large attacks with high body counts are more likely to grab headlines. Threats to small airplanes are nothing new. After the 2001 attacks, the government grounded thousands of crop dusters amid fears the planes could be used in an attack. In 2002, US officials said they uncovered an al-Qaeda plot to fly a small plane into a US warship in the Persian Gulf. And in 2003, US officials uncovered an al-Qaeda plot to crash an explosives-laden small aircraft into the US consulate in Karachi, Pakistan.

And President Barack Obama said in a CNN interview on Aug. 16 that a "lone wolf" terror attack in the U.S. is more likely than a major coordinated effort like the Sept. 11 attacks. Western authorities have infiltrated major jihadist groups, planting moles, eavesdropping on chatter, keeping tabs on radical mosques, and carrying out regular terror sweeps. Some say the tough measures have eroded civil liberties.

But lone wolves or small homegrown cells that blend into the general population present a more slippery challenge. "The biggest threats are people working alone or in very small groups," a senior German intelligence official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter. "So it's not important whether we have 40 or 50 or 60 followers of the jihad (under observation) ... that doesn't really make much of a difference. The question is are there some that we don't know but who are planning it?"

Modern technology is also making things harder for authorities. As extremists adapt to the anti-terror crackdown, they have taken more advantage of the Internet to cloak their communications and recruit new attackers. "Before, people were recruited in mosques where you'd hear speeches - Finsbury Park or Baker Street" in London, French anti-terrorism judge Marc Trevidic told the AP. "Then that totally stopped. Today, there is not a single case where group members weren't recruited on the Internet." "The ability to self-indoctrinate online is a big concern, because not being in a group complicates our task of surveillance," he said. A terrorist group, he said, "is easier to monitor, moves around and has meetings."

I agree, Terrorism has always been around but it is when the state uses "fear" of such things to transition into a police state that eyebrows should be raised.

Stalin did it "in defense of the Motherland"

Hitler call his group "Fatherland Security"

There is a limit to how much power the state should have in peace time and no matter how much the powers at be try to dress up one act of terrorism that happened a decade ago ....

NYPD Arrest Man Building Bomb For Returning US Troops...

NY arrests Awlaki follower on bomb-making plan
Sun Nov 20, 2011 - New York police arrested a follower of late Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki on suspicion of building a pipe bomb he planned to use against U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday.

Jose Pimentel, 27, was charged with three terrorism-related counts and two other counts, court documents said. A U.S. citizen born in the Dominican Republic, Pimentel was arrested on Saturday in a Manhattan apartment while putting the bomb together, police said. They called him a "lone wolf" who had converted to Islam and became a radical. In an interview with New York police, Pimentel admitted he "took active steps to build the bomb, including shaving the match heads and drilling holes in the pipes" and was "one hour away from completing it," said the criminal complaint filed by the Manhattan District Attorney.

Pimentel, who has not been charged federally, faces life in prison if convicted. He was under surveillance since May 2009 and considered New York police cars, a New Jersey police station and U.S. post office among his potential targets, officials said. As a reader of the online magazine "Inspire" published by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Pimentel took instructions from an article "How to Build a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told a news conference. "We think an event that really set him off was the elimination of Anwar al-Awlaki," Kelly said. "His actions became a lot more intense after September 30."

A U.S. drone strike killed Awlaki, a U.S. citizen, in Yemen in late September, ending a two-year hunt. U.S. intelligence called him the "chief of external operations" for al Qaeda's Yemen branch and a Internet-savvy propagandist. Kelly said Pimentel "talked about changing his name to Osama Hussein to celebrate his heroes Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein." The criminal complaint said a police informant recorded meetings with Pimentel over a period of months and accompanied him as he bought materials for the bomb, including a drill and a clock. The information from the police could not be independently confirmed.

FBI focused on 'sovereign citizen' extremists
Monday, February 6, 2012 | The FBI has been paying closer attention to `sovereign citizen' extremists around the country out of concerns that they will react violently when they interact with government officials.

Sovereign citizens are people who reject their U.S. citizenship and don't recognize government authority, like laws and taxes. In 2009, the FBI started paying closer attention to the movement, which previously had been grouped with the militia movements in the bureau's domestic counterterrorism operations. Many people who claim to be followers of this movement are involved in white collar crimes like tax evasion schemes and making fraudulent documents, the FBI said. "We started to notice a heightened potential for violence," said Stuart McArthur, deputy assistant director of the FBI's counterterrorism division.

Speaking to reporters at the FBI's national headquarters, McArthur said that while sovereign citizen ideologies are protected by the constitution, there have been instances when extremist members have turned to violence. "The thing about generally sovereign citizen extremists is that because their ideology just intrinsically deals with the rejection, complete rejection, of the constitutional authority of the United States or any other government for that matter ... that when you have an encounter with law enforcement, we have seen that has a potential to go high and right very fast," McArthur said. McArthur used the 2010 example of when a man and his son shot and killed two police officers during a traffic stop in West Memphis, Tenn. The man was a sovereign citizen who previously had only been on the FBI's radar for white collar scams, he said.

Since the enhanced focus on the group starting in 2009, the FBI created a national strategy to address the issue, which includes briefing state and local law enforcement around the country on signs to look for and how to prevent violence. Casey Carty, a supervisor in the bureau's domestic terrorism section that leads the sovereign citizen extremist program, said that people in the sovereign citizen movement do not tend to gravitate to one specific part of the country and reside in nearly every state. Carty also said that age, gender and race are not consistent among the movement's followers.

U.S. warns of possible domestic violence
Sept. 13, 2012 WASHINGTON -- U.S. officials Thursday warned public safety agencies outrage abroad over a movie disparaging the Prophet Muhammad could lead to domestic "acts of violence."

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued the Joint Intelligence Bulletin, cautioning first responders extremist groups in the United States might "exploit anger over the film to advance their recruitment efforts" and "the risk of violence could increase both at home and abroad as the film continues to gain attention," ABC News reported.

"First responders should remain aware of the potential for spontaneous large crowds and protests that could overwhelm resources and should be vigilant for possible efforts to encourage peaceful protesters to commit acts of violence," the warning said.

The bulletin said authorities have no information about specific threats, but called on "faith-based organizations to promptly report suspicious activities that could indicate preoperational plotting against Jewish, Coptic, Islamic or any other faith-based communities."

Protests spread across the Middle East and northern Africa Thursday two days after militants killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other U.S. diplomats in Benghazi and protesters tried to storm the embassy compound in Cairo -- with demonstrations in front of U.S. embassies in Tunisia, Morocco, Israel and Sudan, CNN reported. Hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen.
