Except Kylo Ren wasn't a "Sith Lord", he was an apprentice, and it was Finn who went to rescue Rey after she had been captured by Kylo Ren. It seemed to me that everyone was contributing more or less equally to the fight against the dark side.

Wrong. It was a good movie but there were a lot of mistakes.

In movies 1 through 6, people had to go to be trained and tutored to learn how to use the force, there was even a Jedi school, but in 7 people just learn they have powers, close their eyes for a few seconds and voila! instant master jedi.

And it was a total rehash of 4 and 5 - same plot, same love triangle setup, a young replacement for the Luke and Leia and Han Solo characters, a Death Star that had just one weak spot that had to be hit by X-wings, blah blah blah.

Disney did what Hollywood does these days, they lack creativity so they take a successful old movie, polish it, refilm it, and rake in the bucks.

I didn't sense any "agenda" except to make a good movie that people would enjoy. Mission accomplished.

I don't know why, I had a monster post pointing out that it was a team effort.

Yes, again, it's almost as if the Force has awakened or something.

Okay, now those are some legitimate criticisms.

Apprentice who killed all the other jedi's that Luke was training, and was in training for years. All of sudden this chick just gets the light saber, over powering Rens mind and proceeds to utterly beat the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of him.

I also didn't like that "Instant Force user awesome sauce" aspect. But my friend pointed out that just because she didn't have any formal training, Ray's tough life as a desert scaver probably honed her force powers quite a bit along the way even if she didn't understand how or why things were happening.- after all there are force users outside of Jedi/Sith. Maybe Ray was on a path through the force through the school of hard knocks and only now understands how to make it work.

Plus there seemed to be some extra ju-ju in the light saber- maybe it adds a +5 bonus to "use the force"?

She's a force sensitive and Jedi, come on its like a super heroine would you have an issue with a stand alone Black Widow movie where she kicked butt and outsmarted bad guys? Its not the real world. I think Rey is fine as part of the Resistance side.

Because Kylo was trained and experienced. Rey was not.

But it makes the feminists happy, so prior plot and story be damned. In the next episode, I look forward to Rey using the Force to go back in time and fix all that is right. Because, "girl power," that's why !

Rey was experienced in melee combat, and we are given nothing to establish Kylo's expertise in melee combat. As has already been pointed out, Kylo had already been severely injured before the fight began. And if you are going to ignore the whole Force thing, then you probably shouldn't be commenting on a movie about the Force.

But it is just a movie in a galaxy far far away, its fantasy, not like Star Trek which could actually happen.

Where is there any "girl power" in the movie? At what point are her abilities attributed to her gender? She's just out there doing what male characters have been doing for the entire history of film.

Do you honestly think he would rise as he did without proper combat training ? Nonsense. And "the Force thing" requires time and experience to harness. All prior rules and laws were thrown out so this gal can teach other girls that rules don't apply to them !

and yet Luke was able to almost completely raise an X-Wing fighter out of a swamp on his first day of training.

admit it, you're just anti-woman characters who ain't bed-ridden and pregnant.

    - - - Updated - - -

its S.O.P. for English-speaking actors to be able to do amazing things, even though we've seen no prior training in the film.

somehow is BAD when its a woman?

Don't you realize how absurd it is to argue about how plausible something is when the entire premise of the movie is based on a magical force that allows people to manipulate matter and energy with their minds? If you can suspend disbelief for that, then why is it so hard for you to belief that Rey was born with a greater ability to wield the force than Kylo Ren? The idea of innate ability is not an unusual concept in fantasy, you know.

I heard Han Solo gets killed by his and Leia (or however it is spelled) son after killing Luke's wife.

    Is that true?

American/British films are FULL of unexperienced guys suddenly being able to kick ass, due to some magical force or just being cool.

why is it suddenly a crime when the person is a female role????????????

I saw it twice and they better have a really good explanation as to why Rey didn't get torn apart at the end. Vader whooped Luke's ass and this was after a good while of training from Yoda. Rey had diddly for training, or at least that's what we know. She should have chopped her own arm off in that duel. She's goes all Hulk Hogan. Kylo Ren being hurt was a cop out as to why she had a chance. He stopped a laser with his mind while having a conversation with people. It should have ended with her beaten and broken when the earth opened up and split them apart. Amateurs using light sabers without training was the only thing that really bugged me.

Also captain Phasma being a total waste. All that hype and she's got 2 lines and served no purpose what so ever in the story. Why wasn't she the one getting into a cool duel with Fin instead of generic trooper #937? That made so much more sense to build their anti relationship. What a wasted opportunity.

Snoke didn't need to be CG either. Would have been far more convincing as makeup. His head wasn't that alien. Why do CG when you don't have to?

Nothing in the script give us any indication that he has more combat experience than Rey. Sorry.

And some people are naturally attuned to it, as has already been established.

"The rules" in SW have always been that some people are exceptions to the rule and are naturally attuned to the Force. We also know that Rey has a lot more exposure to the Force than even she realizes.

    *****spoilers*****

She's had dreams, all her life, of an island in the middle of an ocean . . . remember that part? Combine that foresight with the fact that Luke's lightsaber calls to her specifically.

Riiiiiiight, just like Finn being able to stand toe-to-toe with Kylo in a lightsaber combat is to "teach black people that the rules don't apply to them" :omfg:

If I had a dollar for every film that showed an unexperienced guy suddenly take on amazing skills in a short period of time, I'd be a millionaire.

but when its a girl, TRAGEDY!!!!!!!!!!!
