This video is pretty mind boggling. It's odd to think that we've captured on film, a man who actually witnessed something which only exist in antiquity in the minds of most living today. It's somewhat hard to comprehend the idea of someone living in the 1950's actually being present during the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. This is an epic occurrence in American history... caught on film.
Amazing. Here is another. Many of those pictures of Abraham Lincoln which we've all seen many times and also those of the war and of the execution of Lincoln's murderers, were taken by a wandering Scot. Warning...some of the pictures may be disturbing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/0/19465391 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mtn87
Very interesting. The 30's, 40's and 50's was a time when many people died who were the eye witnesses to incredible history. Viv, I never knew those pictures were from a traveling Scot... I am really glad he was able to record the reality of war.
Quite amazing to see. It's a shame we don't have more recordings of witnesses to such historic events to call on. Thankfully, we do have interviews with the late Harry Patch, the last surviving British survivor from the trenches of WWI:
